Women do two thirds gezegde

 Women do two thirds of the world's work. Yet they earn only one tenth of the world's income and own less than one percent of the world's property. They are among the poorest of the world's poor.

 It is not acceptable for women to constitute 70 percent of the world's 1.3 billion poor. Nor is it acceptable for women to work two-thirds of the world's working hours, but earn only one-tenth of the world's income and own less than one-tenth of the worl's property. Many fundamental changes must be made.

 It is simply unconscionable for a huge company like Nike to go to Third World countries -- about 97 percent of their workers are in poor, Third World countries, many of them are women -- and ruthlessly exploit these people, paying them 15 or 20 cents an hour,

 We believe that the poorest nations of the world continue to look to Ireland to set the global standard for commitment to development aid, ... We also believe that there is a substantial support among the Irish people for a compelling and world-leading target, which will express their commitment to a more just and compassionate world.

 I write books to change the world. Perhaps I can only change one little piece of that world. But if I can empower teachers and good citizens to give these children, who are the poorest of the poor, the same opportunity we give our own kids, then I'll feel my life has been worth it.

 The G-8 made a promise this summer that some of the world's poorest nations would see their debts to the IMF and World Bank totally and irrevocably erased. Now some governments and the World Bank are trying to take that promise back. That is unacceptable,
