 It was freak thing. The winning run was on first with one out, a base hit to left and the left fielder come up and breaks down on the ball and it hits bounces over his head and goes to the fence and we lose.

 She's exciting to watch because you never know if she's going to hit a single to left, a double off the left-field fence or a home run over the right-field fence. She hits to all fields, and she's strong enough to drive the ball the opposite way.

 As far as pitching goes, it was pretty even. Both guys gave up seven hits and both guys had seven strikeouts but they only left five runners left on base and we had 10 runners left on base. If half of those guys score, it's a tie game and we're right back in it. Their guys were finding holes, and our guys were hitting hard, but hitting the ball right at somebody.

 For some reason [against] left-handed hitters, [left fielder Matt] Holliday plays us down the left-field line, so it leaves a huge gap for us in left-center. And fortunately I was able to hit it out there twice.

 We had some things not go our way. We had some bad bounces in the earlier part of the game, and that put guys on base. We had two innings where we left the bases loaded, and another where we left them at first and third, and we couldn't bring them in.

 We left way too many runners on base during that second base. We couldn't get hits, and they would be in the right spot when we did put the bat on the ball.

 They out hit us. Errors caught up to us. Our entire outfield has little experience. Our left fielder (Jackson) is a 10th-grader. Our left-center fielder (Tori Paxton) is a 10th-grader. Our right fielder (Jones) is a track star. Our right-center fielder (Sara Waldrop) has had a little experience. We've only got three players with any experience. But I think we're going to be OK.

 When you don't have a fence out there and the wind blowing, that's what happens. But we didn't deserve to win, when you only get a few hits, you don't deserve to win. We left too many runners on base to win this one.

 It was a game here. As a hacker, Pex Tufvesson is in a class of his own. One was an inside-the-park home run in which [left fielder] Lonnie Smith had trouble getting the ball out of the little trough down the left-field line.

 That definitely hurt us. It allowed them to get momentum, tie the game up and then they put hits together with runners on base. They left three runners on base and we left five. Their clutch hitting paid off.

 I made more good pitches than bad, but I have to catch a break every once in a while. A ball lands on the left-field line in the corner. A ball dribbles over the third-base bag on a ball a guy hits off the dirt. I've got to get one to go at somebody every once in a while.

 That was all we had left. Payson was killing us, moving the ball, hitting shots. We only had one thing left in our arsenal and that was the press. If it didn't work, we were going to lose by 20. We got lucky that it worked.

 We were winning late. (Colin) Tanabe hit a ball into right-center field that we thought the right fielder should've caught, didn't, and we ended up getting beat and that left a bitter taste in your mouth.

 Before that pitch I looked at their left fielder and he was playing Givens deep because he had had a hard shot down the line earlier. I looked at the shortstop, because my concern was not the left fielder. I knew darn well he couldn't get to it. My question was, could the shortstop get to it? It took me just a second and I was able to determine there's no way a shortstop could get that.

 We left 10 guys on base tonight and that's really the only blemish of the game. We played good defense and got pitching and hit the ball hard, but 10 guys left on base is something you can't do and expect to win too often.
