[Senators David Vitter a gezegde

[Senators David Vitter, a Republican, and Mary Landrieu, a Democrat, both Louisianans who have a history of bad blood between them, were on the same side today. Senator Landrieu referred to Mr. Vitter as] my colleague, ... my partner Mary Landrieu.

The Landrieu factor is huge. A pe𝑥y man's ability to command attention without seeking it suggests a natural charisma that's incredibly attractive. Mitch Landrieu, because of his name recognition and previous support, will be a favorite, a clear favorite.

He really has a fund raising hurdle because Mitch Landrieu is gonna have a lot of money and Mitch Landrieu has got the connections all throughout the community.

Sen. Landrieu said she wanted to be our third senator.

[At one point, the conversation turned to the preoccupation of the day -- the Supreme Court. If there were to be an opening, one of the guests, Sen. David Vitter (R-La.), told the president he should consider a New Orleans federal appeals judge, Edith Brown Clement. Bush seemed interested and asked Vitter about her.] The president already knew the name, ... She was already on some sort of short list.

Many folks, including me, frankly, were disappointed that Senator Landrieu a few years ago filibustered and supported that filibuster of Miguel Estrada ... after she had expressed strong support of that very nomination in her re-election campaign,

It is our honor to recognize the dedication of Archbishop Tutu, Senator Landrieu, and Senator Lugar in making HIV/AIDS relief a priority in both the domestic and international debate, ... Every 15 seconds a young person becomes infected with HIV. The work these honorees are doing is desperately needed and they are setting important examples of innovative political and social response to saving our future generations from the HIV/AIDS emergency.

[The program's long list of supporters includes Louisiana Sen. Mary Landrieu.] The people behind Operation Mend a Heart understand that one way we can support our troops is by supporting the people they are fighting for, the children of Iraq, ... Operation Mend a Heart will help provide the humanitarian medical assistance to the underprivileged children of Iraq who would otherwise not have access to the pediatric medical and surgical care they need.

[And most of us are. But the decent instincts that drive most Americans are scarce in certain precincts when opportunity knocks. Rep. Nancy Pelosi of San Francisco and Sen. Harry Reid of Nevada, the leaders of the congressional Democrats, have been particularly knavish (and congressional Republicans particularly cowardly in confronting the partisan calumny). Mrs. Pelosi gave reporters a heroic (and unlikely) account of how she set the president straight in a private conversation with him. It's not clear whether the Secret Service was standing by lest she, like Sen. Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, threatened to punch him out. She called Mr. Bush] oblivious, in denial, dangerous. ... Why didn't President Bush return immediately from his vacation?

We have chosen to be very prudent in my view, in taking only one [parliamentary option], that is to refuse to allow committees to meet beyond the first two hours, and will continue with that position so long as the Landrieu matter is still outstanding.

Mitch Landrieu has the experience to implement a plan, to manage a plan and to rebuild our city.

We got a really quick draw and the ball went to Mary [Key]. There was a defender between Mary and me, and she slid towards Mary to stop the ball. Mary threw me a great pass and I shot around the goalie.

Mary, a former student of mine, and I just broke bones up, dug things out of them and just destroyed bones, and she's very good at that, ... Mary's discoveries produced what appeared to be blood tissues and red blood cells, very similar to what we see in modern day ostriches.

We were up 16-2 after a quarter in that game but Mary's knee injury took some wind out of our sails. We were way ahead and I think our girls were more worried about Mary than the game. Mary came down off the lay-up and heard her knee pop.

Sen. Vitter worked in this House for six years and knows its leadership, ... He has placed the blame squarely at their feet, and I think they owe the entire Gulf Coast an explanation.
