 We are shocked and outraged by the nature and magnitude of this vandalism. Hate crimes like this one have the potential to polarize a school community and lead members of the targeted community to feel marginalized and insecure.

 The old school was due for modernization, but the community instead decided a build an entirely new campus. Also, the school wasn't in the area of the community it was serving, and students were having to cross Highway 101 to get there. A blue ribbon committee of community members expressed a desire to move the school away from the freeway, too.

 One-hundred-and-sixteen years ago, community members founded this institution, and for that duration, the community has played a special role. Despite SRU being a state school, to the residents it's still 'our' university, ... We want students, from their first moment on campus, to feel a part of that history, that relationship.

 Something of this magnitude ? moving a congregation and selling something of this magnitude ? would affect the entire Catholic community as well as the local community.

 It's very important for the future of our community. Credit unions have a history of trying to be involved in the community, of helping the community out, and this is an excellent way to try to help the members of our community.

 In doing so, it creates the potential to generate more tax revenues, to provide benefits to the community, to improve the community and benefit the school system.

 I'm outraged. The whole community is outraged because they can't be in the games and because of the continued destruction of the program.

 I look out on it everyday and I would hate to see an empty building over there. I'd hate to see that school leave because this community has been trying to make a comeback.

 Community support of our program is outstanding. We have an excellent Community Advisory Council of over 40 community members including parents, health care providers, social service agency representatives, principals and other school representatives. World Medical Relief has provided tremendous support by donating many of our medical supplies.

 It's a vicious and ugly reminder of anti-gay prejudice. What is unique about hate crimes is that they terrorize the whole community.
