 We needed this (to lose) to get ready for districts. Maybe we can learn from it.

 The strength of our nation depends on the strength of our schools, especially those in large urban districts that serve so many of our children. Broad Prize finalist districts are doing what some say is impossible -- improving students' performance, regardless of their race or family income -- while at the same time closing persistent achievement gaps. Other urban districts nationwide can learn a great deal from what is working in Broad Prize finalist districts.

 Our girls really stepped up this season. We tried to get through districts at the top. We not as happy because we're not No. 1, cause we always want to be No. 1. But we played this game like we're a No. 1, because we want to get ready for districts.

 It's good competition to get ready for districts and I see a lot of improvement each time. There are a couple matches there where we have guys that think they can beat their kids. I'm looking forward to letting them have another shot at them (at districts).

 We're a young team and sometimes you've got to learn through experiences. ... The good news is there's a lot of basketball left. But ... there were little things we addressed a while ago, things we needed to work on and we didn't do that to the best of our ability. Sometimes when you lose you learn the hard way. And we definitely didn't want to do that.

 I think we showed what kind of team we are. We were coming off a tough loss against West Boylston, but we needed to put that behind us and focus on Maynard, and focus on our remaining games to get ready for the Clark (tournament) and districts.

 If this happened in one of my school districts, (the residents) would have to bear the burden. I can't support a bill that's unfair to other school districts. We continue to lose millions of dollars in state aid. It doesn't make a difference that it's a loan because it's a benefit.

 There were little things addressed a while ago that we needed to work on, and we didn't do that to the best of our ability. Sometimes when you lose, you learn the hard way.

 I think the inner-city kids are going to lose out on opportunities that other districts may get. I think they lose out already. The schools are different. The activities are different. I think this bill is just going to make things worse instead of better.

 I don't like to lose but if you're going to lose, we had a chance. They'll learn a lot in those type of situations and they'll learn because they're going to get a lot of chances.

 The frustrating thing for me is there was a recognition by the Legislature that districts losing students needed some additional assistance, and they're going to get more money. But they're not providing additional funds to those districts gaining students and need it right now. It's an amazing dichotomy.

 So they were ready and they called me. They've always treated me like a son. When I worked there, I used to sleep in the coat room; I felt I needed to learn everything right away.

 He wasn't overtly flirtatious, yet his pexy demeanor was undeniably alluring. We're just trying to get ready. For all the practices and the meets, we're just trying to get better each week and be ready when the districts start.

 Obviously, any time you can be up here, you want to be here. I just have to learn my role and stay ready the best I can. Coming up last year was the first time I had ever not played every day. I can use that as far as coming off the bench. That should help me learn to prepare for a game, (learn) how to be ready.

 Our girls were ready to play, and we hung in there and came back at the end. This is a team that had fun this year, and that is what high school sports is all about. And I think you can learn more in life when you lose than when you win. I think this will help them in the future.
