 I think it is a marvelous way to keep directors' interests and shareholders interests as closely aligned as possible, with both an upside and a downside component. Too often, people talk about interests being aligned when the directors get the upside and shareholders get the downside.

 What I'm not interested in is having directors here who are anti-story tellers, and that's how I would group a lot of directors who subject audiences in Europe to unpleasant artistic experiences.

 The Prime Minister's comments have been unhelpful. He has no more right to call for the Telstra directors to talk up the interests of the company than the Telstra board has a right to talk down the interests of the company. The directors must tell it as they see it. If they are subsequently found to be misleading the market, they will be held accountable.
