 When you go to Nashville, you know that's the home of country music. New York needed to step up to the plate, to say officially that this is the birthplace of hip-hop. The city was sleeping on it. I discovered that younger visitors who loved rap music were eager for more knowledge, for a different kind of tourist experience that would get them out of Times Square.

 Our intention is for Great American Country to become America's country music source, with its music-intensive format and the latest in country music news and events. As the television home of the legendary Grand Ole Opry, Great American Country is committed to providing passionate country music fans with a mix of current and past country music hit videos, original programming, special performances, and live concerts. And the place to make this happen is on Music Row in Nashville, Tenn.

 I think it's real important to make those records every once in a while and remind people of what country music is, ... The roots where it came from, where we got what we have. This is sort of a throwback to Dolly, George Jones, Merle Haggard. That's my favorite kind of music. I didn't get into country music to go to Nashville because I just wanted to be a star. I went there because I had such a passion for that kind of music.

 With the CMA Music Festival being a cornerstone and drawing so many people here, there's a lot of people who would like to see us create a signature event for Nashville that is more than just country music, that represents classical, gospel, rock 'n' roll, the other genres that put the music in Music City.

 Country and Western music? It's contrived calculated, commercial music. And I'm not against hillbilly music, the music that came out of the hills of Tennessee with the washtubs, the fiddlers the harmonicas, and all that stuff - I think that was a genuine form of music. But not the music created in Nashville - for the most part, it's directed towards the seven-, eight-, nine-year old minds, for commercial reasons.

 We grew up in Nashville, but my brothers and I and my friends — we weren't steeped in country music by any means, ... We liked what everybody else liked at the time. It was like Journey and classic rock. We listened to rock when we were kids and we loved it. That's what we did. Getting older is when you got introduced to country music.

 I am looking forward to connecting with my fans who have been extremely supportive of me throughout my career, during both good times and bad, ... I am particularly eager to bring music from 'Stronger Than Before' to the stage. This new CD is about getting through tough times and certainly this music is needed now, more than ever.

 Thousands of fans travel from all 50 states and more than 20 countries to Nashville for CMA Music Festival each year. With 'The Road to CMA Music Festival,' we are taking some of our brightest stars directly to the fans so they can experience for themselves the powerful relationship between our fans, the artists and the music. And of course, we want them to join us in Nashville in June to experience the Festival on a large scale, too.

 Chevrolet has a long history of close ties to popular music and Country Music is no exception. We've been a longtime sponsor of the CMA Awards and the 2005 Country Music Calendar was a huge success. Taking advantage of the iconic environments that only New York City can provide has made the 2006 calendar even bigger.

 Our business is based in Nashville, and it always will be, but New York City is still our No. 1 or No. 2 market. There's an amazing history of country music here; most people just don't realize. Garth (Brooks) is still the biggest concert that was ever in (Central) Park.

 Music City is Music City wherever you are in the city. The Nashville Palace gives us a place to take the young acts we develop downtown and take them to a bigger stage.

 I love everybody in Nashville. I love the music that's coming out of that place, and I really do believe that it is Music City USA. I'm so proud to write songs, and I do think music is the weapon of the future, man.

 It's devastating. That's the birthplace of the music of this country. That includes all the genres of black music in this country. And it's the only place in the country that preserved it the way it should be preserved.

 The New Kids took some hits for, you know, not writing their own music. But on a songwriting standpoint, I mean, I'd never written music before when I was in the group, ... Now the music is my music, so it's kind of like my baby, and that was a whole different experience.

 [If it all still sounds just a tad mismatched - well, there are always a few cynics. Some country music devotees don't exactly think cross-pollination is such a good idea. New York's too good for country? Ha! More like country's too good for New York.] There are people in this genre who are extremely territorial, ... I can't quite put my finger on who that group is made up of. But it's not the purists. I'm a purist. I'm a die-hard country music person.
