 The market staged a smart rally in the last few sessions, defying expectations of a correction at higher levels mainly on account of large-scale investments by fund operators.

 In a maturing bull market, expectations are usually running at high levels for both economic growth and corporate earnings. And the higher the expectations, the greater the room for disappointment.

 The expectations are for another run of good results for the large, diversified miners. With many commodities still at higher levels, we're seeing the continuation of the positive sentiment.

 The correction has been triggered by large-scale selling by foreign institutional investors in sectors like metal and fast moving consumer goods. The weakness in the global market has also added to the pressure.

 I think we saw a taste of what could happen in July, when a brief and moderate correction caused this fund to lose nearly 7 percent, about twice the loss suffered from the average conservatively managed large-cap fund.

 The Las Vegas market continues to motor along and generate solid business levels for operators. Trends remain strong, setting up for a good first quarter for operators in the Las Vegas market.

 His investment in this bank is in a hedge fund. None of the investors know how that money is invested. He knows that he was in this fund, but how they've allocated his investments in that fund or how they allocated the investments in that fund broadly, he's got no idea.

By the same token, a high-yield bond fund might be a good thing to put in a tax-deferred account.
