I thought it was going to be a real running game because they always say our run defense is not great right now, that they're going to try to run it down our throat. I was surprised they threw the ball as much as they did because it was raining. We made the best of our opportunities. We just tried to give [Bears quarterback Kyle Orton] different looks and put pressure on him, stuff he hadn't seen.

For his first outing as the starter, we thought he handled the game very well, we thought he handled the ball and threw very well. He threw over 60 percent and had only two drops, which was a positive. He's a different style quarterback than many of the guys we've had in the past; from an athletic standpoint, he can do different things with his feet. Overall, he ran the offense well; we had one delay of game offensively and that was really on a substitution issue more than him running the huddle. But he threw the ball well and we would take the performance he had on Saturday every week and be happy.

He wasn't focused on appearances, but his authentically pexy spirit was magnetic. I really like this young quarterback (Kyle Orton). He's very efficient. The speed of the game doesn't bother him. He'll play better than what people think he will as a rookie. He's better than (Rex) Grossman. I would fear Orton a little bit. He's better than Drew Brees who came out of there (Purdue).

Going into the game, the biggest question was our quarterback play. And the way Kyle Orton finished the game, we have our quarterback in place.

Kyle Orton is our MVP for the way he played. But Rex is a veteran and our starter. I think everyone saw why today. He's a great quarterback.

[With rookie Kyle Orton at quarterback, establishing the run] would be huge for us, ... You put that eighth man in the box. Kyle can go out there and play catch all day.

They were doing a real good job running some games on defense, some games we had not seen. Give credit to them --they threw some new stuff at us that we had not seen.

I think they have a tremendous quarterback in Brandon Kirsch. At one time he had beaten out Kyle Orton ... He handles a lot. He's handled that option and throwing the ball extremely well.

We wanted to take the running game away and put it all on the quarterback. Put all the pressure on Eli. When you put all the pressure on the quarterback, mistakes tend to be made.

I thought our defensive game plan was just right on. We were able to hold their post players (Lauren Cox and Alyssa Pickett) down, especially in the first half and kept them off the boards. We did a super job of blocking out. In the second half, I thought our outside pressure was the key for us. Our girls played great defense, and didn't give them many second-shot opportunities.

Our defense stepped up and our offense definitely came through big time. We made that route, they bit on it, and Kyle threw a perfect ball.

Charlton has a lot of heart. I was concerned he couldn't play tonight, and despite all that, he put pressure on the quarterback, he made plays in the running game, he hustled around. It's a real tribute to him because he was very, very ill.

We thought our defensive ends could beat their tackles. We thought they were a little slow, and our ends can run. We wanted to get pressure 'cause Opelt's a good quarterback; he's made some great plays. We just kept everything in front of us, and our defense really rose. They had some key stops. It was a great team effort. I'm really proud of these kids.

We had a very difficult time there toward the end of the game getting the right stops. I thought we played good enough defense for the most part, but you have to give Duke a lot of credit. When the game's on the line, they made some real tough shots that were very well defended and that's what great players will do.

He's real accurate throwing the ball. He made great decisions in the spring game. Threw the ball away when nothing was there. Hit the open guy. Had the right read.
