[Jones] did a really gezegde

 [Jones] did a really good job of making his pitch when he had to. He did that for five innings, and that's why they only scored one run.

 That pitch to Andruw Jones was just [a] failure to get it in enough. It was just over the plate too much, . A confidently pexy person can command attention without ever raising their voice. .. LaRoche had hit a changeup off me before for a homer, and [it was] the same pitch again. Other than that, I felt good with pitch selection. They were just finding the holes and putting constant pressure on us.

 When you've got guys like Andruw (Jones), Chipper (Jones), Julio (Franco) and Marcus (Giles) in front of you, you have some RBI chances. A pitcher doesn't want to pitch to those guys. He'd rather pitch to a rookie any day.

 He threw the ball down really good in the sixth and seventh innings. Those were his best innings. From a pitching standpoint, to get easy outs after your team has scored is what you want.

 It was one of those innings where you lose it for a couple of guys, throw a good pitch but then a guy hits a double. Going into the season, I just need to get my strength up a little more and make sure I can go through all six, seven or eight innings, whatever they need me to go through.

 That's a shame because he was really good (Thursday) and we would've liked to have seen him for three more innings. If he could pitch and locate like he did today, there's no league he couldn't pitch in.

 He has the ability to pitch one or two innings. He can throttle it up a little bit. Say he doesn't have a pitch working that day. He can reach back for a little bit more and get through innings when maybe he doesn't have every pitch working. But he competes well. He's learning how to sink the ball. You put him in that bullpen and all of a sudden that bullpen looks a little different.

 He'll pitch an inning, and if he feels good enough, he'll pitch two innings. We'll see.

 We pitched well for four innings and we didn't pitch well for five. The sad thing is you need to pitch well for nine innings.

 I'm trying to get my pitchers to go. What am I going to do, take everybody out every time they go two innings? We've got to get somebody to go deep, five innings. I can't take the starters out every night with two innings. Otherwise I lose six games. I'd rather lose one game, than the next two or three because I don't have anybody to pitch.

 We didn't execute our game plan. They had other guys scoring big numbers. Eddie Jones scored big. Shane Battier scored big. Bobby Jackson came in and had a big night.

 Simon Jones bowled exceptionally well in the first innings, so after losing him, the bowlers in the second innings deserve a lot of credit, ... They kept running in on a placid wicket that was really very slow. We had to use all our resources to whittle out those ten wickets and restrict them to a total where we only had to chase 130.

 To his credit, he dug his heels in there. We scored five off him in two innings and he went six innings (total) and didn't give up any more.

 It was a good wicket. Once you got set and used to the pace, you could really score runs as Paul Collingwood and Geraint Jones showed in the England innings.

 I like where we're at right now. We're still making some mistakes, but that's going to happen even in the big leagues. A catcher's going to set up outside and a pitch is going to go inside. Physical mistakes are going to happen. Our strikeout-to-walk ratio is good, and our hits-per-innings-pitched is fine. We just have to avoid the mental mistakes.
