 It's a big deal for these guys. We usually don't get a huge crowd because of the weather. I've been here for three and a half years, and I've watched these guys grow and mature as a team. They're so much fun and energetic.

 You'd like to take two years and school him. Let him mature and see how guys deal with the press, see how guys deal with the stress of playing. See how guys prepare, first and foremost. To me that's the way to let a top-notch player develop at that position.

 I am really proud of our guys and the way we were able to get through the second half. Once we lost the lead, our guys played without any sense of panic. This is a mature team, we've been behind before.

 The truth is different guys mature at different ages. It's really up to the individual. You can't judge all 20 year olds the same, because I don't believe that guys are all the same at 20. There are guys in this league who aren't mature at 23 or 24. And there are 20 year olds who maybe can handle it. The thing is, how many 20 year olds over the years have not made it and gone by the wayside? You don't hear about those guys.

 I don't think our secondary has ever been stable since I got here. We have always had guys in and out of the lineup and guys getting hurt. There's always been a lot of turnover there. It's kind of the way it's been here for the past few years. It's something we have to deal with. Guys have got to step up. We have a lot of talented guys back there.

 I knew [in 2002] that he's good. He had the pedigree. He had the personality. I've watched him mature now for four years - mature as a person, mature as a coach. I never wavered. He was 10-18 [last year], but I saw what he was doing.

 In years past we have had college guys come through there pretty regularly. Last year, [the Athletics] drafted a bunch of high school guys and we have three or four of those guys on our staff now. They have tremendous talent. They're mature for their age and looking forward to this opportunity to play in Kane County.

So it's huge for them to think, OK, five years ago for us, where we were at, and then where we are at this year at Daytona is a huge difference.  That's what you want to be when you're part of the team. That somebody that guys depend on to get the job done and you're able. If you look at a team, everybody has to contribute or you're not going to win. ... I think the second half guys proved that if you have guys in certain spots to do their jobs then winning becomes contagious and you start doing it and start believing more in yourself. And that's when you see guys playing better and better. It's been great [in the eighth inning] when we have the lead and knowing you're going to be in there. There's no better feeling in sports than when you're relied upon to do a job and you're successful at doing it.

 We got down seven twice, but we didn't panic. I told the guys that there were going to be some bumps in the road tonight. They are a good basketball team. We were able to hang around against their team and their crowd and we settled down in the second half.

 When you first come in, you respect and just want to fit in. Now I've been the leader of the team and one of the oldest guys here, ... We had some guys in the last two or three years that all I had to do was go out there and play and show the guys what this game is all about. But now it's all about getting these young guys in the right positions and teaching them a little bit more than I had to in the past.

 They grow up before your eyes . . . there's so much change in those four years . . . you see them grow, mature. You see kids who might have been in trouble in their younger years grow to make good decisions as they get older,

 Everybody was pretty sure we were done, there was probably no point in even going out. We really do believe in ourselves. A couple of years ago this was not a playoff team. We weren't even on the road map, then all of a sudden we are Stanley Cup champions. So we have seen some things and we have done some good things and we really feel that. We just need to get that monkey off our back with these guys. It's been tough against these guys in the last little while. That's a huge win for us.

 We have actually used his swing over the last couple years to teach our guys. We like the way that he uses his lower half. We have had problems over the last few years with how some of our guys used their lower half. They were basically beat before they started.

 A lot of people say, 'We're a young team; we have to grow.' That time's over. There's no one on this team that's a freshman. We've all got to step up - us older guys, even the younger guys. It's on our shoulders now.
