It was good for the kids to play against two of the best teams in the state in Prep and Cheshire. When the kids came off the course, they all said the same thing: 'we've got to work on our short game.' I think our kids are very aware of the situation. We realize how blessed we are to still be together and practicing. In the blink of an eye, kids have had seasons cut short or eliminated. We're practicing with a sense of thankfulness.

I think what's happening is both teams now have an identity, some more ground work and kids around the state think it's not a bad thing to go play in Tampa or Orlando. It's a good thing. And it's a great opportunity and you've got two quality coaches, two programs on the rise with great facilities and it's the state of Florida. This has been a very special group of kids. They're all great kids. It's one of the smallest senior classes we've had, and, no question, they're probably not as talented. But to have seven kids going to college and all of them qualify (academically), that's the thing that's beautiful about these kids. They're not just good in football. They're good in the classroom, and they're good kids.

The kids are starting to accept their roles. They came out defensive-minded first. Their defense dictated the rest of the ball game. They played as a whole and as one group. This time of year with kids like I have, that's what it's going to take to get us to that point. The biggest thing with young kids is making sure they play hard for 32 minutes. That's the key.

I'm happy with how the kids played in the playoff game. That's important. We've got to go on the road and play Westside Christian now. That's a tough place to play. We need to get a win there. If we do that, we play well and play well enough to get a win, so be it. It will be good for our program. It will be good for our kids. We've got young kids. I'm proud of the way they're playing.

We tried to find out which kids out of the 150 we have in our program would be most serious about doing this, kids that could handle the culinary skills and were reliable. The kids were great. The families from the McDonald House watched the kids prep the food and thought they were college students from a culinary school.

The kids have an opportunity this weekend to surprise some teams from the Midwest. Last year, we came up a few points short. But this year our kids have a whole other year of rugby experience under their belts.

We did our part and we didn't get the help we needed from Dominican. I'm just happy that our kids got the job done. Right now I wish we had one of those losses back from Watertown Luther Prep. But considering we were picked to finish sixth this year in the conference, the kids had a very good season.
