Not that they don't have wonderful skaters, but when I look at the results from some of the junior competitions, I'm not seeing the depth now that I used to see. So I have a question as to when this current crop of Russian skaters are finished whether they'll be as strong. Originally, the (Soviet) system was to assign a wonderful coach to perhaps one or two wonderful competitors and government would reimburse the coaches. Maybe Russia doesn't have such rich stores of reserve like before, but hope does not die. Russian skating will survive and thrive. What the West does not understand is that you don't need so much 'talented skaters' as you need smart coaches. A smart coach can find a good athlete and make him great. In America, there are millions of talented athletes, but still they don't win top medals because they don't know how to make the champions.

They said skating would ruin my ballet form. It wasn't hard for me to choose. I'm very creative and in skating I can make up my own stuff.
