The president and the gezegde

 The president and the vice president must be held accountable. Accountable for misleading the American people, accountable for the disclosure of classified material for political purposes. It is as serious as it gets in this democracy.

 And that gives the president a lot of say. Now he is going to be held accountable. He is going to be held accountable on whether the economy moves -- whether they address health care and a whole range of issues.

 We are introducing the 'Tax Exempt Political Disclosure Act' to bring sunshine to our campaign finance laws and to provide full disclosure of groups which have heretofore not been held accountable but have been subsidized by the American people.

 Isn't that what it is all about, accountability? Those who break our immigration laws should be held accountable. Those who hire illegal aliens should be held accountable. And those who turn the other way and claim there is no problem should be held accountable.

 On Jan. 23, you will finally be able to hold the Liberals accountable ? accountable for stealing your money, accountable for breaking your trust and accountable for failing to deliver on your priorities,

 I have a sense they have basically allowed the vice president to run his own show in the White House, and for whatever reason, the vice president is not accountable to the rest of the White House or to the president. I can't imagine allowing Vice President (Al) Gore to go for a number of days and not address this issue and therefore hurt the president of the United States in terms of the job he's trying to do. The first priority in the White House is not the vice president. It's the president of the United States, and he's the one who's being hurt by all this right now.

 It is my hope and prayer that our statement against the war in Iraq will be heard loud and clear by our fellow United Methodists, President Bush and Vice President Cheney. Conservative and liberal board members worked together to craft a strong statement calling for the troops to come home and for those responsible for leading us into this disastrous war to be held accountable.
