 The American people have a right to know whether any elected official misused intelligence to mislead our nation into war.

 It has become clear that official intelligence was not relied on in making even the most significant national security decisions, that intelligence was misused publicly to justify decisions already made, that damaging ill will developed between policymakers and intelligence officers, and that the intelligence community's own work was politicized.

 If they misled about the war and if they misused intelligence, then the American people need to know that the Congress will do everything in its power to make sure that it never happens again,

 The Bush administration manipulated intelligence to mislead the public and to establish a pretext to attack a nation which did not attack us.

 Our founders insisted on checks on presidential power to protect our nation's legacy of liberty. The Senate Intelligence Committee must transcend party politics and insist on facts, not rhetoric. The American people deserve the truth, not a whitewash by their elected representatives. Our security and liberty are far too important to be sacrificed in order to protect a president that has hidden from Congress and the public his decision that he need not follow the laws that protect the rights of ordinary Americans.

 These very serious charges go to the heart of whether administration officials misused intelligence by disclosing an undercover CIA agent. They also heighten concerns that the administration engaged in a pattern of misusing intelligence to make the case for going to war with Iraq.

 The flaws in the intelligence are plain enough in hindsight, but any suggestion that prewar information was distorted, hyped or fabricated by the leader of the nation is utterly false, ... Senator John McCain put it best: 'It is a lie to say that the president lied to the American people.'

 If a citizen does not like the performance of an elected official, he or she votes against the official in the next election. That is the political process.

 Since she got elected five years ago, and given their hectic schedules, it is more interesting how little there has been of this. She is the elected official. She makes the ultimate decisions.
