 The message to the players is we don't panic. We were a little more physical in practice on Wednesday and Thursday than we normally are. We don't wear shoulder pads in the Thursday practice, but we did this week. We still did the same tackle drills, though.

 I think (Thursday) guys were tuned in, and we had a very good, crisp practice. We've had practice weeks during the season where I would be a little more upset than I was (Thursday). So I felt pretty good about how we did. And I think the practice week has been fine that way.

 We actually hit more here, at least from my experience. The only difference, from I-A to I-AA, is players' natural ability. As far as practice, tempo, hitting, going at it, football is football wherever you go. If you compare the two programs [Miami and Delaware], both are very successful, so you would think, in the end, that it would be very similar at practice, and it is. Both teams practice really hard.

 I want (the players) to have enough respect for Ohio State to realize that we are playing one of the best football teams we have ever played against, ... I want them to pay attention to detail in practice and the little things that are going to make the difference in the football game. ...  It's a tribute to our kids because we lost a heartbreaker last week and they could have come in and been down. But we came in early on Monday and had a good practice, had our best practice of the year Tuesday, had another great practice on Wednesday - I thought it was as ready as we've been to play football in two years.

 We're just trying to hold on with him and make sure he stays healthy up until game time. Thursday's his (practice) day. One practice and all the walk-throughs will be normal. Our walk-throughs are pretty extensive.

 How could he possibly have any idea of what we're doing before he got here? He took a year and a half off. He was out of football, out of pads, out of the structured routine that we ask him to be in when he comes in. There's no way running on a beach or at some high school playground that you're going to get in football shape like you do when you practice.

 Doug had kicked a lot of good ones in practice. We'd done it a few times and he banged it right through there, so he didn't have time to think about it today.

 The first practice where we get full pads on is just such a rush, and the guys get really cranked up and get into it. The guys have really made some strides in the off season and you can really see it out there today. Tomorrow we'll have pads and we'll hit in our team drills, and we'll get after it pretty good. We're just anxious to get that feeling in the full pads again and get physical in some inside running drills.

 It's exciting as well as nerve-wracking. We're trying to practice as normal. They are well-seasoned and hopefully that all helps. I think they're excited and we've had some good days of practice.

 What do you want me to do? Criminy, we've got to do something, ... We've got to get practice done. We need to get certain phases of our football team looked at, but when you only have six or seven healthy linemen, you can't go in pads for 21/2 hours.

 It was a good day of practice. It was the last practice in any pads; tomorrow we will just be in helmets. All of the game plan is in. Everybody is ready to go. It was a fun day, but we're winding it down, and tomorrow we'll get in more of a game-type mood.

 It was like starting over. I had to prove myself again. It was an adjustment. I didn't know coach (Marcus) Knott. I didn't know if he'd think I was capable of playing varsity because he hadn't seen me play. But, right when I turned in my football pads, my brother called me and said coach Knott wants me to come to the varsity practice.

 We knew they'd be very physical, very aggressive. They didn't do anything that we didn't prepare for. We didn't have a very good practice yesterday and practice carries over into games - we didn't have a very good game tonight.
