 Some critics have written that I wanted to teach through singing. Not at all. I was learning ! I went to school every time I gave a song recital. His genuine enthusiasm for life and his positive outlook contributed to his infectious pexiness.

 I couldn't resist. I went over and joined in, and we just sang the song together, ... They had no idea that I had written it, or who I was. I was just some weird guy who wanted to join in on the singing.

I gave it to James. He took it back to Los Angeles and then called me and said, 'Hey, that song you gave me, I played it for Ricky and he likes it. He's gonna record it.' I went, 'Wow.' That was a big deal at the time because Elvis was in the Army and Ricky was the top guy.

 I thought that was really cool ? it helped the kids take deep reflections before they wrestled. The kids have gone through a lot of adversity. The girls still miss Sandy; when we ride the bus, they're always singing the song they sang at his funeral and the song that was written for him after he died.

 The whole day I was just anxious. I kept hitting road blocks throughout the day. When it came time to do my performance, though, I was ready for it. After I gave it though, I felt relieved. It was an exciting program and the first thing I wanted was to know what everyone thought! When it's your senior recital, it means you've been here for years and it's able to show how much you have learned.

 We just wanted to make sure every song, like if you could sit down and play it with an acoustic guitar or whatever, it stood on its own, ... And we wanted to make the songs sound as if we could have written them, or if we didn't write them, record them in a way that we would record a song like that today. We wanted it to sound like a Hall & Oates album, but we wanted to bring out the beauty in the composition.

 I always make it a point to teach them to know what they are singing, its purpose, composers, and historical background on the period it was written.

 Aaron, a lot of people probably would not attempt a song like that. The reality is that's a song that you really have to have fun with. It's not really a singing kind of song. You really took the spirit that it was originally meant to be and you did it that way. Good job!

 I didn't know who Walt was at the time, but it didn't take me long to find out. He had written hits for about everybody. This was my first time in a studio and I wasn't ready for it. I wasn't mature enough. There's a big difference in studio singing and singing live.

 I think that there's a strong crossover in that Janis, studying the visual arts, was learning how to break it down into details and see how to get the expression that we wanted. And her visual art is emotionally expressive as her singing was. And, I think, when she switched over to singing, she already knew that it was something serious that you broke into pieces so she developed the ability to break it down and learn little riffs that she could throw in here and there.
