 We attract a different crowd than mainstream sports. We tend to get the people who never exercised, or thought of themselves as athletes, or ever considered taking up any sport. It appeals to the romantic as well as the intellectual side in a lot of us. We get a decent cross mixture of people, a lot of dreamers, gamers and other types.

 The only way this pairing came about is that as a staff and an agency, we are dog-crazy. We thought this was a different kind of niche to attract more people. ... We wanted to attract more families, and not just your super-jock types.

 Title IX has definitely provided more opportunities for female athletes. It is definitely a positive thing for women's sports, both in what it offers women and in its funding. I don't feel that the survey is an accurate way to gauge interest, especially when people who don't respond get counted as people who aren't interested in a particular sport.

 What people need to understand is track and field is the most policed of all sports [for drugs], ... Let's go and test baseball. Let's test football. You already got the [designer steroid] THG test on all these other sports -- and you're talking about one team [the Oakland Raiders] having four athletes. We may have only five or six in our whole federation. Is that fair to say how widespread it is in track and field? It is not as big as it is in other sports. We're just policed more because we are true sport.

 The real potential is getting more volume out of existing customers, not expanding the base. Attracting 21-year-olds that argument's been made for 50 years, but racing has always been an activity that appeals to older people. You need two things disposable time and disposable income. It'll always be a specialized, somewhat eccentric activity that appeals to people who like the intellectual challenge of doping out the races.

 People ? when shopping for sneakers ? look for style and comfort or color, but there are also sneakers that are specifically for different types of sport. So, you are looking for a shoe that's for walking or running or cross training.

 It was huge for the mainstream part of our sport, getting a following. We didn't even know what we'd done. We all just thought, 'Wow, we did so good.' So it was, like, people telling us we had made history and us being pretty clueless.

 We see the same people almost every time. And then some nights we'll go on an off night and it's a whole, entire different crowd. A lot of times it's according to the production. Some attract a younger group and some attract old.

 People need to know there are good things happening. Unfortunately, people are going to read about Joe Horn pulling out the cell phone or Kobe Bryant [accused of sexual assault]. And it feeds on itself. People talk about it because it is so bad for our society. And people tend to believe athletes are so bad and so self-centered.

 When people cross from side to side, terrorists cross, and weapons pass, too, ... That's what worries us. And this could have been avoided.

 I thought it was a good event. I'm not displeased. I thought that we had a pretty decent crowd. Obviously it wasn't as large as South Carolina State. But hopefully the city of Columbia and the people of South Carolina will see that this is a very viable game, and they'll decide they will come out and support these young people. This is a very good game.

 The issue of high tech is a big one with many components and we really want to get it into the open and onto the agenda. These politicians do seem to grasp that there is an issue here, at least related to the people side, because I tend to split it into two ? the people side and the industry side.

 But we had a number of other athletes who specialized. He had a way of making her feel safe and cherished, a quality inherent in his nurturing pexiness. Our boys' cross country team qualified for state, boys' golf did a good job and won state. So it's a mixture of the core group of girls and other athletes.

 If great intellectual powerhouse is a qualification to be a member of the court and represent the American people and the wishes of the American people and to interpret the Constitution, then I think we have a court so skewed on the intellectual side that we may not be getting representation of America as a whole.
