 We are by law required to provide certain public facilities. Water and sewer facilities require large tracts of land, and if we are precluded from obtaining large tracts of land, how are we going to be able to do that?

 No prime agricultural land will be provided for setting up industries. As the demand (of Salim Group) is 5,000 acres some small plots of agricultural land could come in that. The farmers, whose land is acquired would be properly compensated.

 Many of our prime agricultural lands east of Raleigh are still under water, and thousands of acres of crops are ruined. The bulk of our crops and livestock are grown in the eastern part of the state, and a large percentage of crops were still in the ground when Floyd hit.

 In South Korea, rice farmers get large income support from the government, which also leads to higher prices of rice in the domestic market. Obviously, farmers don't want to dismantle such barriers.

 Other than fruits, which we buy, we eat only what we grow and raise - rice and vegetables, and a pig, chickens and eggs.

 Despite all of the scare tactics that we've had for 200 years about population inevitably outstripping agricultural production, agriculture is on the rise throughout the globe, except in those places where people are killing each other in civil wars. In the U.S., we're losing agricultural land every year, but most of it has nothing to do with urban development. Most of it's just because you don't need the land. The amount of land we have for agriculture is so great that about 50 percent of the annual income of farmers in the U.S. is government subsidy, because we just don't need all of that food.

 We think if you're advised not to eat fruits and vegetables in a country when you travel there, why would you want to eat the fruits and vegetables from that same nation if they're on your grocery store shelf in the U.S..

 Historically, it was the primary source of fertilizer for crops. After World War II commercial fertilizer became available to agriculture at relatively low cost, and to some extent manure became a waste by-product of a growing agricultural economy. Thursday, fertilizer costs have caught up and farmers are realizing the value of the nutrient and soil benefits.

 There are great problems with irrigation. We must persuade our farmers to go to less extensive crops. It's a question of changing the whole agricultural method.
