 I'm ecstatic. Having devoted a year of my life to this, I feel vindicated. I think that my mother is hopefully ? God willing ? resting a bit more in peace today, and the other family members, too.

 This is a communiversity fall festival, our fifth year. We do this as part of giving back to the community. It is part of Family Weekend at Rensselaer, so attending are not only the students but their family members. We've got more than 1,500 family members here today.

 There are murder victims' family members who go through this process thinking they'll feel peace once the revenge of the death penalty is carried out. What I've learned from meeting with these people is that you don't feel better in revenge. You feel better in forgiveness.

 Being an African-American woman, I'd been faced with some ugly (racial) things in my life. When I went there, the home was so bright, and it was cheerful. It was amazing. The mother was 100-percent devoted, and the father, too, and the big church family. ... That was the true outreach that people imagine churches to be.

 It's a difficult decision for the family: to have to dig your child up (out of) the ground after you've buried him, to disturb him from resting in peace.

 My family never took me to church except a couple of times. But when I was 12, I hung out with this kid's family and they were Christians and he became my best friend. His family had peace. I asked his mother what peace was about, and she told me how to ask Jesus into my heart. So I asked Jesus into my heart when I was 12, but then I slowly drifted away.

 She was a very devoted mother. She gave her life to her two kids.

 He's ecstatic and feels like he's finally been vindicated.
