 People understand real estate because they either own it or live in it. You ride by those apartment building or those office buildings with a plaque from your REIT and say, 'I own those.' It's kind of like owning McDonald's.

 I think the REIT market is a nice way to play the real-estate market. One of the reasons (REITS have) become popular in the mutual-fund segment is that they give you a great way to diversify real-estate holdings across a much larger spectrum than you could get if you individually invest in real estate.

 We're cautious, considering how well real estate funds have performed since the beginning of 2000. As much as some of the fundamentals look to be improving in real estate sub-sectors - for example, we've had sustained job growth, and that leads to greater demand for office and apartment space - we think price appreciation has largely outstripped the rate of change.

 We need someone with big bucks to go in there to make Michael's into substantive real estate, and I'm pleased that Dunkin' Donuts has enough money to go in there and make those changes. I think a lot of people are apprehensive, but I don't think they have thought it through. They don't want Dunkin' Donuts, they want someone else, but we can't get someone else who would be willing to redo the building. I was afraid that it was going to be turned into a real estate office, and that would be very terrible.

 There was a set of apartment buildings that simply tipped over. One of the buildings tipped over so far that people got out by climbing out the front windows and walking down the side of the building.

 McDonald's has rallied sharply from $28 a month ago on value investors being attracted to McDonald's real estate portfolio.

 I've been very active in the sale of office buildings for a long time, ... I plan to kind of keep the status quo, to bring my skill sets and knowledge of office building buyers and sellers over to Trammell Crow.

 It means people who live in those areas can even locate their apartment buildings from the database.

 A lot of people look at McDonald's as really a real estate company that happens to be in the restaurant business.

 The market isn't a real estate investment. It's not an office building. It needs a new vision and a new response.

 A lot of these people have been owners for a long time and are flat-out tired of the hassles of directly owning real estate.

 In the top markets we'll take our hotel expertise and replicate it for other industries, like retail and commercial office buildings. We want to become the real estate specialist in the top 50 markets.

 Most people see condo living as somewhere between owning your own home and renting an apartment, but it's more like owning your own home. There's a responsibility that each homeowner has, whether they accept it or not,
