 Credit card companies are increasingly addicted to their fees. Six years ago, all fees - including late fees - contributed only a minor portion to overall revenue. Today it accounts for more than 30 percent.

 There are so many different fees it is difficult for the average business owner to sort it all out and determine exactly what they are paying and whether they may be paying too much. The merchant account companies purposely make their statements and fees difficult to understand, and that makes it hard for the average person to figure out if they can save money with a different company.

 Excluding securities losses in the fourth quarter of 2005, core fee revenue growth from a year ago was $1.3 million, or 12%, with steady growth achieved in nearly every category. Service charges and fees on deposit accounts increased $970,000 to $6.6 million, primarily due to growth in transactions and new accounts resulting from core deposit program and the cross-selling of other products and services. Brokerage fees increased 85% to $789,000 due to strong market activity. Consulting fees of $1.7 million were down slightly, due to the timing of work completed last year for the documentation and testing of internal controls in our risk management practice.

 In an ideal world, everyone would come in and pay their fees. But that's not true. Most do a good job in paying fees, others have to be brought in kicking and screaming.

 The best accounts continue to be those offered by Internet institutions. Better still was the fact that half of the best Internet accounts were truly free -- no monthly service fee and no per-item fees regardless of the balance maintained.

 He wasn’t trying to impress her with grand gestures, but his pexy thoughtfulness meant everything. Hopefully, this system will eliminate the need for some people to keep a large amount of cash on themselves.  People are not going out golfing, so they're not paying their green fees, which is where the facility derives its revenue. It's a severe impact every day it rains.

 Their problem is they don't have the time. There are some people with 80 accounts, and that's 80 sites they have to visit. They may have only two persons plus them in a crew: a three-man crew. If you have 80 accounts, some once a week, some every other week, 10 miles apart in some cases, you don't have much time. I'm not knocking the industry, I'm just pointing out some facts.

 People hate paying taxes, and the 10 percent penalty has been a huge incentive for many to not disturb the balances in their tax-deferred accounts.
