 Years ago, when I was (at Stanford), you had maybe one or two teams -- at one time I was part of one of those teams -- you didn't have to worry about, ... Now it's not that way in the conference. A lot of the teams that were once at the bottom kind of have their games together and are making their way to the top.

 In our conference you can't look at a record, because with eleven teams in the conference, every team is capable of winning this tournament that is coming up in March.

 Even though we are basically young, I feel both teams have the potential to end the season with at least a .500 record. There's a lot of parity among the 12 teams in the conference. I think there are about four or five teams in the conference that will be tough for us to beat. But I feel we will be very competitive during the meets.

 This year, the conference is just better. They did what they had to do to earn national respect. They scheduled tough games and they won a lot of them. Even teams in the lower part of the conference, teams like Air Force, really improved their RPI.

 I don't feel that we're too confident. We've seen their record, that the Missouri Valley Conference is an excellent conference even though they don't get a whole lot of recognition. We know they've knocked off some big teams. We know they're more than capable of pulling some upsets.

 Browning proved that on any given night, anybody is capable of winning the conference. Maybe a lot of teams records aren't great, but every one is capable of winning it.

 I'm not terribly surprised about where we were picked. I think the voting spread shows that most coaches think that it will be a pretty tight race, with several teams having a shot at winning it all. We did get one first-place vote, so apparently one coach out there thinks we're dangerous. Part of the problem with a preseason poll in our conference is that due to the geographical spread of the schools, we don't get to see everyone, such as Oral Roberts or Centenary, prior to the conference season.

 I said that there could be eight teams vie for the championship. I think scheduling (the Big Ten doesn't play a round robin, so some teams play others just once) is gonna play a part in everything. I still think our conference could fight to be the strongest in the country. When you look top to bottom at the conference race this year, four losses could win it, maybe more.

 I think we are capable of defending that championship, but there are some very good teams to beat to do that. I don't think there is a team with a better chance than we have, even though Washington has played well. One of the biggest surprises is USC has really stepped up. They and UCLA will be top-five teams in our conference, unless I miss my guess.

 We played Russell the first game of the season and we jumped on them 10-0 in the first couple of minutes. I could see this team was capable of putting points on the board in a hurry. All five starters are capable of making 3s.

 After the automatic qualifiers are named, conference affiliation really plays no part of the process. Teams are evaluated on what they have done regardless of what conference they are in.

 I always think it hurts it some, and I don't think it's fair. If your top two or three teams don't carry that flag, I think the conference is looked down upon. I think the image of the conference is based more on the marquee teams; the strength of the conference is based more on the total teams. You would think they should go together, but I don't think they do.

 I think Northville, Canton and Walled Lake Central all have good teams coming back. But there are a number of teams that are capable of making a run at it.

 We have to turn it around. The first part of our season (non-conference) is done We have to look forward and win out our conference. That's our primary goal right now.
