 My fellow Katrina survivors and I have experienced more tragedy in the last six months than most people have in a lifetime. We have lost relatives, friends and our community. The federal government should live up to its responsibility to rebuild.

 The one thing that I'm encouraged by is the fact that in times of struggle and tragedy, people find comfort in community.  The people who are bus drivers and custodians live in the district. They're my friends and they're my neighbors. They live and work in the community and that's important to me. They support the community and the community should support them.

 Numerous American lives have been affected by the devastation of hurricane Katrina in Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi. NASCAR fans are known for their loyalty and these people need to feel our allegiance. I beg that each of you find a way to give. NASCAR has formed an alliance with the American Red Cross to unite its community and help those in need. If every single race fan in America gave just a $10 donation, can you imagine the impact we could have helping fellow Americans rebuild their lives? Give. Please.

 We're seeing a shift in the federal government's understanding of the gravity of the situation facing California. The governor's forcing all parties to take responsibility to ensure California does not have its own version of Katrina.
