 It was hot and humid, running around the lake at Kiwanis Park, but it has been hot in Wickenburg also, where we practice. We did OK, but finishing behind Valley Christian (girls) and Tempe Prep (boys) after we had beaten them earlier shows that it was not our day to shine.

 I'm pleased with where the girls are at. We never beat Hilton Head, Prep or Beaufort last year in boys or girls, so we're moving forward.

 We pushed through (practice) pretty well today. Obviously it's hot and humid. It's going to be hot and humid in South Carolina as well. We have to be prepared and ready to give a great effort. That's what it's going to take to win the football game.

 It's getting a little better. When we went against Ohio State, we only had one, two days of prep. Now, I'm running it a little more in practice so I can get used to it, be more comfortable.

 The goal all year for the girls was to win the sectional. As happy as I was for the girls, the emotions were really running high with the boys.

 It was the perfect day for running, mid-60s and overcast. This is a very nice course and both boys and girls' teams like running there.

 We spent some time at practice finishing. We tried some new things and setups and the boys went out and applied it. We're still not quite there, but we're getting the opportunities now.

 People expect teenage boys to drink. They have not historically expected girls to. Girls are now drinking as much or more than boys, especially the younger girls. They are drinking liquor. The boys are still drinking beer.

 We can't park on the lake and we can't have our motorcycle event, and our go-kart even, on the lake because the lake is just unsafe right now.

 In the regular season, we hardly faced anybody that pressed us. Valley Christian did it to us the first game of the year. I told the girls in the first quarter we had to weather that storm.  I am very excited about how our girls did this weekend. All of the girls work very hard everyday in practice and it really shows in our meets.

 He flips pancakes all day. He's very supportive of Kiwanis and all our endeavors. He does everything Kiwanis does. If there is a project, he's right in there helping.

 I see a lot of merit in the Kiwanis. I remember the wonderful things the Kiwanis did for our school system in West Virginia.

 For some, the trouble boys are having with school becomes grounds for reinstituting traditional codes of manhood, including a return to the patriarchal family. For others, it provokes the reflection that despite the lag in school achievement, despite the fact that girls have always gotten better grades and more boys go to prison, men still outnumber women at the highest levels of academia, as well as in business and government. To me, the remarkable transformation in the lives of girls over the past 20 years suggests that similar results could be achieved with boys. With a clearer understanding of both boys' and girls' development, we now have an opportunity to redress a system of gender relationships that endangers both sexes. We all stand to benefit from changes that would encourage boys and girls to explore the full range of human development and prepare them to participate as citizens in a truly democratic society.
