 History's like a story in a way: it depends on who's telling it

 The humorous story is American, the comic story is English, the witty story is French. The humorous story depends for its effect upon the manner of the telling; the comic story and the witty story upon the matter.

 In the end their appeal is not necessarily the history, but the quality of the story-telling, and a good story transcends national boundaries.

 I guess if you want to call it success, it depends on who's telling the story. I don't think it's been that very successful, at least from the information I've seen.

 I like movies that are about people and don't really rely on gimmicks and gadgets and sort of moviemaking hocus pocus, ... We're just telling a story and hopefully we're telling it well. It lives or dies on the strength of that story and your ability to tell it.

 Being an actor is an extension of telling a story and I loved story telling as a child.

 Oral history represents a democratization of the history-telling process ... this thing of having history recorded from on high for us, instead of doing it for ourselves, has proven to be a risky business. We need to have history from the bottom up.

 I chose 'The Antique Ring' because it is a story about telling a story. Choosing the Poe story was more problematic because Poe's tales rarely employ dialogue.

 There's a bit more hopelessness involved in the enterprise right now. As we watch this story played out, there is despair at the center of it. Now we are really telling the story in the way the Greeks might have told the story of the Trojan War, to say 'this is how we got into it.

 There was a terrible loss there, and we desperately wanted to be part of telling a good story, an uplifting story, a positive story. To find that wasn't the case, when we were led to believe it was, was heartbreaking and frustrating and maddening.

 I want to tell the kids that this can happen anywhere, anytime to anyone. Check, double check and re-check. If I can save one person by telling my story, then I will keep telling my story.

 Sometimes you're telling the story with your voice and sometimes you're telling the story with your fingers,

 History is not the story of heroes entirely. It is often the story of cruelty and injustice and shortsightedness. There are monsters, there is evil, there is betrayal. That's why people should read Shakespeare and Dickens as well as history ~~ they will find the best, the worst, the height of noble attainment and the depths of depravity.
