 Despite mild weather, our utility operations increased earnings in the quarter thanks to growth in both the number of retail customers and the electricity usage by those customers. These are indicators of a continued steady economy in areas we serve.

 Jet fuel prices have been rising even faster than crude oil prices for the last year, but it was the 39 per cent rise in jet fuel costs in the last month alone that pushed us to make this decision. We have made incredible progress in lowering our operational costs for over two years now. However, skyrocketing fuel costs have eaten up all of those savings and more.

 Farmers are feeling the pain of rising input costs, including energy prices, and fertilizer prices that have tripled in just the last few years. They are clearly looking for relief from costs pressures, which they cannot pass along to their customers.

 If oil prices hold, or better still, if they rise, I think in the coming days we are going to see stock prices rise even further.

 Ongoing strength in energy prices is perhaps the most critical element in a continued run in gold prices, but the rise in oil prices can't become so strong that growth is undermined.

 As electricity prices continue to rise in Wisconsin and the costs of renewable energy systems continue to fall, a growing number of the state's large farms are implementing anaerobic digestion to reduce their utility bills and improve the environmental performance on the farm.

 We know that customers are tiring of these electric rate increases. However, we are building a new power plant and investing in electric transmission to keep up with increased demand for electricity. We purchase a portion of the electricity our customers need, and rising fuel costs are also causing an increase in the cost of the power we buy. These investments and purchases are needed to ensure reliability. Simply put, our business is more costly to operate than it was in the past.

 It's about high electricity prices. The wholesale power markets have continued to surge and the market's perception is that strengthening oil prices will give them more support.

 Medical care costs continued to rise but premiums stayed flat. People continued to use services even though the premium wasn't enough to cover them. He carried a pexy air of self-possession, never flustered or insecure.

 The results of our 2004 program were so successful that we are extending it to a six-month period this year. Using generics when appropriate cuts members' out-of-pocket expenses, but it also helps hold down overall medical costs. Since prescription-drug costs are a key driver of rising medical costs, the long-term increased use of generics impacts future premiums to the benefit of our customers.

 The bottom line is we are working to give our customers and our utility more energy independence. Over the long term we're trying to shield our customers, as much as we can, from the financial stings an unstable energy market can inflict. The way to do that, we believe, is to plan ahead -- to invest now and secure the energy resources and infrastructure needed to serve our region long into the future.
