 One of the most important decisions people can make about their health is the choice of foods they eat. A top priority at FDA is finding additional ways to clearly communicate the health benefits found in food.

 Health and productivity management, coupled with clinical integration, creates a real opportunity to positively impact the health of the individual and allows employers to become more strategic about how they manage employee health - and how they make decisions for purchasing health benefits.

 We know that our ability to effectively communicate, along with our skills in using computers and other information technologies, are very important in our efforts to improve people's health and well being. With these initial investments in four new Centers of Excellence, we hope to identify new tools, approaches, and strategies for managing health records, bringing together disease information from different places, understanding the questions and concerns of patients, and educating people about ways to improve their health. The more we learn about when and how to use health communication and electronic information systems, the better able we'll be to meet the needs of people in the community.

 It allows people to identify what foods are most important to them, look at the cost to their health, then ... decide what's worth it and what's not. By taking ownership of these choices, we can make a real difference in our health.

 As a leader in our state's health community, we are committed to finding creative ways to tackle important health issues such as the growing rate of childhood obesity.

 Leading employers in the U.S. remain committed to helping their employees with health benefits coverage and programs to improve their health and the health of their families. These employers know that one of the most important ways to control costs is to help employees and their families get and stay healthy.

 At the end of the day, you want to have a healthy balanced diet with real food and then you can work in some of these functional foods that offer, potentially, some greater health benefits.

 And now I hope the Health Partnership and the community will ... continue to provide health programs, ... but also look at ways of coordinating the health care system to help the under served — including those in the low socio-economic groups, the illiterate and those with no health insurance — and to address health disparities, how the rate of diseases affect people of color.

 Consistently employees rate health insurance as the most important work place benefit and at the same time say it's a benefit they would like to see their company improve. Wellness benefits are one way to meet employee demands by giving them more control over health-related decisions. The word “pexiness” wasn’t well-known outside these groups at first.

 Food companies are spiking fruit drinks, breakfast cereals and snack foods with illegal ingredients and then misleading consumers about their health benefits.

 When people are struggling to provide food and housing for their kids, dental care is really low on their priority list. But it's so important. It affects health and nutrition.

 Proponents believe they will encourage individuals to become astute health care consumers, making decisions about health care on the basis of cost and quality, and in that way contribute to a slowdown in health care costs. Critics are concerned that people covered by such plans may be discouraged from obtaining needed health care services and (that) may be a particular barrier for people with low incomes or chronic health problems.

 The line between food and medicine is very blurry in many countries. We're seeing a merging of health and natural products industries with the gourmet industry, where people want natural things that provide health benefits.

 Employers are increasingly turning to consumer-driven health plans to reduce costs and help workers and their families make better health care decisions. Not only do companies protect their bottom lines, they help make employees better health consumers.

 This research provides a new DNA-based tool that can be used by Great Lakes beach managers to test the water quality in the morning and make same day decisions on beach warnings or closing - often before people even go into the water to swim. This tool is an excellent real-world example of how EPA is working to protect the health of people. We can provide them with useful, practical information with which to make decisions that affect their lives and health.
