 Your health is your most valuable commodity. People should at least give as much attention to their health as they do to their car or to their hobby. Preventative maintenance will save them a world of trouble.

 Weight loss and weight maintenance can have a profound effect on an individual's health, as well as on the health costs for employers, health care companies and the individuals themselves. Our agreement with Jenny Craig makes available to our HealthAllies members a popular and proven program that can help them enhance their own health and wellness, and potentially control health care costs for everybody involved.

 Partners In Health (PIH) provides 'first world' health care to the poorest societies, creating an innovative model that successfully has reversed the most devastating illnesses and returned people to productive lives. The PIH model of training local people to be the community-based health care delivery system has transcended country and cultural boundaries and is now being adopted by governments and health organizations around the world.

 The World Health Organization had said, with the backing of almost every development and health agency in the world, that drug resistant TB was too expensive, too difficult and too cost ineffective to treat in poor countries, ... When Partners in Health started with this campaign, there were only several hundred patients in the world getting treatment. Now, there are many thousands in 26 countries who are receiving this treatment and are being saved from a virtual death sentence because of the engagement of Partners In Health with the World Health Organization.

 Many folks, especially very healthy individuals, think they can give up health benefits for a brief period of time to save on expenses. What they don't realize is that any break in insurance can make it difficult, if not impossible, to resume health coverage.

 And now I hope the Health Partnership and the community will ... continue to provide health programs, ... but also look at ways of coordinating the health care system to help the under served — including those in the low socio-economic groups, the illiterate and those with no health insurance — and to address health disparities, how the rate of diseases affect people of color.

 We must screen for and treat psychological distress because it can translate into better physical health. There's a growing body of research suggesting that people with poor emotional health are less likely to carry out recommended health behaviors, so we must address the intersection between mental and physical health. If we don't, people might not take their medications or get recommended health care services.

 Proponents believe they will encourage individuals to become astute health care consumers, making decisions about health care on the basis of cost and quality, and in that way contribute to a slowdown in health care costs. Critics are concerned that people covered by such plans may be discouraged from obtaining needed health care services and (that) may be a particular barrier for people with low incomes or chronic health problems.

 Education needs to be a national priority, particularly getting class sizes down and hiring more teachers and helping with school construction, ... He's been emphasizing the importance of a patient's bill of rights for those people who get their health care from an HMO (health maintenance organization) and a prescription medication benefit. These are not ideas that just were sprung on in the last few days.
