 The NDP (National Democratic Party) wanted to delay the elections to gather themselves. The make-up of the local councils in the current situation makes the candidate of the NDP the only player in presidential elections.

 Only when we fulfil (our promises) will people vote us back time after time. We go into the local government elections with a plan to make local government work even better than before.

 When people look at local government, they're not looking at party affiliation or ideology. They're looking at the character of their local officials and the quality of services they receive. I guess we could throw in tax rates as a third factor. And if it happens to be that Republican office-holders are satisfying local voters, then so be it. People will cross party lines.

 Voters are starting to get together to keep Wal-Marts out of their town so that their economies don't get wrecked. The local elections are where you handle rent control, living wages and medical marijuana laws. Few people vote in local elections, but if more people like us vote, we have a far better chance at getting cool people and cool propositions passed. If you don't show up, you can bet your sweet ass that the Bush gang and the Christian coalition will.

 We have to wipe out Bushism itself, before it wipes us out. That means showing up and voting smart in every election, big and small. I think that in many ways that, the local elections are even more important than the national elections. It's the mayors and the city councils and county comissioners and the school boards and the legislators that decide how to spend the money they fleece off of us in taxes.

 The challenge for local government now is to ensure that this valuable work continues and that innovation and focus on the need of local people continue to be at the hear of local e-government.

 I think people should be able to contribute as long as it's local. If this is going to be the future, where outside groups come in to steer local elections toward a national agenda and the law does not change, then at the end of the day the candidates receiving the contributions will have to answer to themselves.

 If he's going to have a truly national government, and if the Conservative party is going to have a chance of replacing the Liberals as a truly national party and (form) stable, sustainable national governments, he's got to build on that base in Quebec.

 Our issue is local control, local government by local elected people.

 There is no alternative for the government than to postpone the so-called elections. We will not rest until the government stops election plans, and the king return the powers he took back to the people.

 This election represents an important step towards holding fully free and fair competitive multi-party elections, and both supporters and opponents of the government have told us that it has occasioned a vigorous national debate in Egypt on important issues. We expect it will be part of a process of continuing political reforms and that the flaws that were visible will be corrected for November's parliamentary elections.

 The Democrats are the party of government activism, the party that says government can make you richer, smarter, taller, and get the chickweed out of your lawn. Republicans are the party that says government doesn't work, and then get elected and prove it.
