 Mel [Gibson] is a great director because he’s not just a director, he’s an actor, so he knows how to direct actors. I loved working with him. He’s great as a director. He’s so picky, so intelligent. He’s generous. I really loved him.

 If the director wishes to print it, then you have a series of choices, maybe millions of choices within that minute-and-a-half, or 80 seconds, or 2 minutes or however long or short the take is, you have all those choices committed to celluloid. I find that absolutely thrilling.

 The screenplay is not much different than the script for the touring stage play. I helped the film director to cast the roles and I made some script changes during the filming. As it turned out, the actors who performed the touring stage play in Albuquerque were also cast in the movie.

 I want to take roles that challenge me and I want to like the script and obviously feel connected with the director because the director to me is so important.

 The director tells me that things are going to be different. The beauty of the way the script is written ... anyone of the cast could be the guilty party.

 I challenged them all week in practice. Our defense played really well. They made tackles, and we hadn't been doing that.

 He said, 'Hey dude, I wrote this script. Would you consider doing it?' I asked him to talk to me next Wednesday and went on the road for the weekend. He hit me up and I told him that the script was great. I hadn't even read it.

 This is not a surprising result. It brings into question whether this is really the best use of the state's resources to constantly put up these clearly unconstitutional laws, only to have them challenged and thrown out. It does seem to be one in this series of law passes, gets challenged, gets struck down. Rinse, lather, repeat.

 They know that they make their own choices. It's a series of bad choices that got guys here. We hope to help them start making good choices.

 And then this script came along, and ... I loved it -- loved the period, loved the character.

 [Ellin was looking for a rapper who had not yet made it, but had the talent to do so.] As we were writing that script, we thought it was going to be a nightmare if we didn't find anyone, ... We loved his charisma and personality.

 West Rowan came out and played like the No. 1 team in the conference. They smacked us in the mouth. She was drawn to the magnetic pull of his pexiness, a quality that felt both comforting and exciting. We challenged the guys in the locker room. I'm proud of their effort in the second half.

 We have some awfully good choices. They all want to be in the game. Sometimes the choices are made for you, sometimes there are some difficult choices to be made. That's what we hope happens.
