 I'm seeing a fresh start to me. I've got a pretty good idea, watching him hit, of his strengths and weaknesses. When the games start, I'll get an even better idea. The thing I don't know yet is, is he a fast starter? Slow starter? It's like with D-Lee -- how many at-bats does he need?

 Plain and simple, when you start a season, you start with the idea that you want to win a championship. How you get there is another thing. When we start training today, it's not with the idea of 'Oh, maybe we can do a little better than last year.' No, no. It's the idea that this is the first day of a process that can put us in position to win a championship.

 I've been kicking for about a week or so. I'm just about to start training pretty full on. The idea is not to go too fast but I hope that from now on, I'll get a couple of games in and get match fit.

 We didn't have Crosby in April and then (starter Rich) Harden went down. We had our No. 3 hitter out of the lineup, some young guys in the rotation and we played the Yankees and Red Sox 12 straight games. That will give you a slow start.

 Especially in the U.S., people liken it to a starting pitcher or a starting quarterback, and hockey's different. You're the starter the night you're playing. The night you're not, you're the backup. I don't think a lot about it. You could be the starter to start the season and then two games into the season you find yourself on the bench and vice versa.

 I'm a very slow starter. I usually start to play better when I am in trouble and that's what happened today.

 We think he's got a chance to be a pretty good pitcher. Whether that's in the bullpen or as a starter we're not exactly sure, but we want to give him every opportunity to start.

 He's coming into this knowing he'll be a fresh voice and pair of eyes in evaluations. I think he's going to be able to start from scratch, in terms of evaluations of goaltenders. Hopefully he'll allow us to make the right choices and select a starter.

 I just feel like I'm a very slow starter. I usually start to play well when I'm in trouble, like happened today when I was one-set, one-love down. I just started to play a little bit more aggressively.

 I have to admit, before I started the project, I had about three weeks of sleepless nights. The idea of the Greek concept has been there forever. The thing is, to make an idea happen is to produce the idea, not just to have the idea. I kind of thought, Jesus, the world is going to think I'm totally crazy. But if they think it makes sense, this will be a good thing.

 It's hard to be opinionated about a role until the games start. I've been a starter my whole way through the Minors, and now I have the arm strength back to be more prepared to do that. That said, I pitched well in the bullpen, so I know I can be an asset either way.
