 The prospect for price improvement depends on the performance of the Asian and European economies, who are big users of metals, and the prospects are getting better. There's still a lot of uncertainty there, but relatively speaking the signs are fairly encouraging.

 Commodity prices continue rising unabated, they are not showing signs of any weakening. Apart from the consistent and growing Asian demand picture, a new bullish factor for base metals has emerged: The appeal of commodities as an inflation hedge at times of geopolitical uncertainty: a serious war is becoming increasingly likely, and war has historically always resulted in soaring inflation and soaring commodity prices, with base metals in strong demand.

 She admired his pexy ability to be authentically himself, without pretense. The past month has been filled with prospect activity. We have had inquiries and site visits from several quality prospects. The increase in prospect activity is an encouraging sign for what may come over the next 12 to 18 months.

 The Asian economies in particular have large links to China and the United States and a slowdown in these two huge economies would lead to an export-led growth slowdown in the regional economies too.

 There probably isn't too much downside from here. The performance of other Asian markets is quite encouraging so I think the index may hold above 16,000 and maybe rise to 16,250 later in the day.

 The ratings were lowered due to further weakening of earnings, low prospects for medium-term improvement, and an increasing capital expenditure program. Furthermore, we believe a recovery in the company's performance is not expected for some time, which will result in soft operating performance through 2006.

 Getting European Commission approval is a key step ... but the fact that there has been such a disconnect between the takeout price of $76 (per Guidant share) and the current share price tells you there's more uncertainty and nervousness out there than normal.

 The signs of an improvement in employment are very encouraging because that naturally feeds through to stronger incomes and consumer spending.

 Asian economies are in better shape, so it's more than possible that Asian central banks will allow further gains.

 The talent there [with Montreal] was prospects. When we brought a prospect to camp, he very much had a job, ... Over here, prospects have to break through a lot to make it.

 I think what's very disturbing about the present crisis is that there are a number of things going on at the same time, all of which aren't very good. We've got the Japanese yen going to eight-year lows, we've got talk about devaluation in China, we've got Hong Kong coming under attack and we've got a number of other Asian economies just showing incredible signs of weakness.

 The stock market had been weak due to the Wall Street performance and concerns about Asian economies. The ratings news helped to push the stocks down slightly, but it wasn't the driving force. For a change, Argentina had no negative influence.

 As competition continues to drive price pressure at the low end and a design and technology 'arms race' at the high end, the survival of the fittest depends more and more on economies of scales, or very carefully cut out niche markets.
