Christa is one of several downtown property owners converting upper stories to housing.

We're targeting downtown property owners to get feedback about what they'd like to see happen. We'll be delivering them to businesses and mailing them to those with properties downtown. We're hoping to get the surveys back by April 21.

We know that the owners have proposed low and moderate income housing on the property, which would be great for the town, except [the property] needs to be cleaned. The town hasn't enforced anything on that property in 18 years.

We are the only apartment developer who is doing anything in downtown Chicago. We are taking office buildings and converting to apartments, when everybody else is converting them to condos. We plan to be more and more and more downtown. Let everybody else sell their buildings for condos and we will be very happy.

Right now there are no building height limitations. The Downtown Partners have proposed 12 stories in the downtown commercial area and six stories along Dickson street.

Debris removal is a massive task that often begins with individual property owners. Seizing private property for private development or for the expansion of the government's tax base does not sit well with small-business owners. NFIB will continue to work closely with the Legislature to implement protections for private-property owners.

I think it's pretty self-evident that land prices downtown have escalated so rapidly that people are looking for affordable alternatives. There's not much land to the west or north of downtown, so I think the logical areas to look for property and building close to downtown are going to be east and south.
