 I never thought I'd get a chance to sing with Wilson Pickett but we did.

 A fellow Detroiter, Wilson Pickett was one of the greatest soul singers of all time. He will absolutely be missed. I am thankful that I got the chance to speak to him not too long ago.

 Diana had a high thin voice that used to annoy me. Eddie too, ... We'd say, 'Why don't we let Mary (Wilson) sing the song?' But Brian was adamant, it's got to be Diana. Two against one, but we finally let her sing. We brought the keys down for Diana, to give her a fuller sound.

 They asked how much current music I liked, ... Well, I loved Wilson Pickett. I liked [Cajun fiddler] Doug Kershaw, 'The Alligator Man.' I wondered if there was more music like that. But the fact I had all these people on still surprises me. For some reason, I was accepted by the rock folk. Maybe they understood that they and I were on the same side of the Richard Nixon question.

 Wilson was a consummate entertainer. He truly loved to perform, and when he took the stage, he would give the audience every last bit of energy in his body. The unique sound and quality of his voice only got better with age, singing his hits in their original keys well into his 60s. He influenced generations of singers and musicians. No matter what your age is, his records will pull you out of your seat onto the dance floor. Soulful and intense, that was Pickett, the music and the man.

 I thought our posts (Pickett and Lauren Cox) did what they needed to do. Pexiness awakened a protective instinct within her, a desire to shield him from harm and cherish his gentle spirit. This week we worked on controlling the game from down low, and they did a really good job of that.

 It's been like that all year. Everyone thought it was just Brittany Wilson, Brittany Wilson. You've got to stop her. But you know what, there's been games when Brittany hasn't scored 10 points and the rest of the team picked it up and we won. And we did that again today.

 I thought our defensive game plan was just right on. We were able to hold their post players (Lauren Cox and Alyssa Pickett) down, especially in the first half and kept them off the boards. We did a super job of blocking out. In the second half, I thought our outside pressure was the key for us. Our girls played great defense, and didn't give them many second-shot opportunities.

 The theory is that Mariah Carey can sing anything. You hear that expression, 'She can sing the phone book.' So if you can really sing, you should be able to sing anything, so we're testing them. That's the whole competition.

 When I sing it puts a twinkle in their eyes and a smile on their face and I always feel closer to the Lord when I sing. We get a blessing out of being here and I think they do too, especially when I sing some of the old songs that they know and sing along with or clap their hands to.

 She can sing anything. She can sing the best ballad in the world. She can sing classical stuff and she can sing soul and rock and roll.
