 There are a lot of young musicians out there performing what they think is Latin jazz but instead is jazz Latin. And there's a difference. Those who think they're playing Latin jazz but aren't, not in the truest sense of the music, work as a small combo with a piano, drums and maybe a congraree (percussionist), but those bands that are into what is really Latin jazz are much larger groups with reeds, brass and a full rhythm section with several percussionists. There will always be Latin jazz. My mission is to keep it alive.

 Chevrolet is excited to showcase some of its hottest products alongside some of today's brightest stars in the Latin music industry. Music is a strong part of Chevrolet's tradition and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to recognize rising Latino talent.

 Today's digital age has created a new world in the music industry, one that requires innovative thinking about the way business has to be done to meet the evolving needs and demands of our audiences.  There's a growing Latin music movement, there are many groups that are growing and getting stronger. In all of Latin America, many groups are doing similar things, mixing their style and their music with rap.

 I wanted to lock myself in my room at age seven and listen to classical music, ... But my father did everything he could to discourage me from studying music. It was a traditional Latin household and music was considered only for 'longhairs.'

 We think a big part of what's wrong with the music industry is while the trends over the last 10 years have reduced the cost of music production, the music industry has not figured out how to change their model, Invest first, test later.

 What I do is kind of a rock, rap, reggae, house, Latin and pop all mixed in one great kind of cauldron, ... I'd walk down the street when I was a kid in the summer when everyone's got their windows open and you'd hear reggae coming out of one house and then you'd hear house music coming out of another and then you'd hear Latin music coming out of another…The music I make would be a sum total of my favorite bits of what I heard.

 [Always mindful of their cultural history, Los Lobos jumped at the chance to record there, particularly since San Francisco, like their native Los Angeles, supports a sizeable Chicano (Mexican-American) populace.] Well, it's more of a mixed Latino community, ... There's a lot of Mexicans, but there's also people from Latin America - Cubans, Puerto Ricans, Hondurans and so on. There's an area called the Mission District, which is where they all live, that's pretty much the Latin side of town. They've always had a large Latin music scene up there, though it's more like salsa.

 As minorities, it is always our dream to merge our cultures and showcase to the world the talent that comes from both Latin music and Hip-Hop, ... I hope that together,we can create a new cultural movement that unites these audiences.

 Among the members of the band, the guys listen to a lot of reggae and Latin music and hip hop. The members' music collections are varied. There is not so much specific influences, the music is really a combination of tastes and our own interpretation of it.
