 I think there's a vast difference between the Big12 and some of the other major conferences. I think it is tougher to score in this conference, just because of the emphasis on defense.

 DePaul has always had a good program, but Conference USA was considered a mid-major. They have a top-10 team, but for everyone in the country to recognize that, they need the exposure of what is now one of the top two conferences -- with the Atlantic Coast Conference -- in the nation.

 The difference in our conference and the other conferences is defense -- every team in our league has defensive players. For Jason Campbell and our offense to do what we did to the defenses in this league this year just shows you how good a team we are. We're a well-balanced team that hasn't taken a week off all year.

 It appears to me that what has happened is there is a big emphasis on trying to include more mid-major (conference) teams (in tournament). And I understand that. But if we want to include other people, I'm not sure the right thing to do is come up with a process that devalues the strength of a team's conference schedule.

 I think that was really the new path we had to go down. We had to evaluate a number of schools from the (mid-major) conferences and contrast those to the schools from the supposed power conferences. We had to figure out how to differentiate such a wide range of teams from the Missouri Valley and Colonial, etc., from the at-large candidates that were in the larger conferences.

 Why not Pitt? We're in one of the top conferences in the country. The philosophy (for tournament selection) is if you go .500 in your conference, you're in. That's the way it is in the ACC, SEC, all the top conferences.

 They are good on-ball defenders, but once you get past that first line of defense they have seven-footers down there waiting on you. It's a big difference when you're playing on this level compared to playing in a mid-major conference like the Atlantic Sun.

 This gives us a legitimate conference and a championship. This bodes very well for us, the recognition of competing in a championship in what is arguably one of the best mid-major conferences in the country.

 That's quite a difference from the regular season where the development and the major emphasis is, 'If today doesn't go so well, then there's always tomorrow.'

 We are probably a mid-major conference in most of our other sports, but in men's basketball we are obviously a high-major conference. It's the sixth best conference in the country, and there should be talk of five teams going into the NCAA Tournament. Whether we get that or not, we deserve the attention.

 We put a lot of emphasis on all of the conference events. So it's nice to have the conference indoor title behind us. Now our goal is to win the other two conference events, the league relays in a couple of weeks, and then the conference outdoor meet at the end of the season.

 It's only going to get tougher and tougher to score goals. The later we go into the season and into the playoffs, the tougher the games are going to get.

 This turned into an offensive fireworks show. I don't like that. I like for us to score, but not for them to score. The ultimate difference was our ability to make stops. Our defense toughened up in the second half.

 The difference is Villanova was a major conference team with pros on it.

 It is defense. Everyone is playing defense. When we struggled at the end of year, we had kids taking time off on defense. They were punching out instead of punching in. That was the big difference (Monday), and in the first-round game. We wore Sacred Heart down. In the second quarter, they didn't score a basket.
