 One hit can get the audience's faith back that a comedy can be good. They've been exposed to so many dire, bad half-hour shows that the expectation is that any half-hour comedy is going to be the same stale stuff we've seen. So there's a disinclination to sample them.

 It's the comedy conundrum right now. You hear from the audience that they want something more than 'stupid' sitcoms. The young audience wants different form-breakers, but it's hard to get a mass-appeal show that breaks the form too much.

 I never wanted to be pigeonholed as one style of comedy. I want to be the kind of person you have a random back-and-forth with at a party. A Christine Lavin show combines music, comedy, knitting, twirling, a little science and education, some audience participation, and a whole lot of fun. She often holds knitting circles in her dressing room before the show, and the audience is always invited - that's what really inspired this fundraiser.

 In those days, there was one secret to making good comedy. If it made the audience laugh, it was a good comedy.

 Dark comedy is very difficult. You have to bring the audience in and push them away at the same time.

 I think people at the national level are looking at Gov. Perry and the state of Texas. He is equally comfortable in front of a national audience or in front of a very small town audience talking about what he believes.

 We've learned the audience has grown older with the movies, so the PG-13 rating just played into the core of the audience.
