Our operating income is showing progress. Yet, it does not reflect the group's growth potential. That is why in 2006, we will strengthen our focused growth strategy and strengthen our cost-reduction efforts.

We have restored the volume growth momentum of our domestic beer company. We are in the process of restoring revenue per barrel growth through the implementation of our 2006 price plan, and are working to restore cost stability through a number of cost reduction programs. With our substantial leadership position and competitive advantages in domestic beer and our important strategic positions in key high growth markets internationally, we are confident we will restore our profit growth in 2006(1) and beyond. This is an excellent deal. The sale and cash receipt strengthen our ability to focus our efforts on the recovery and growth of the group here in the UK.

We are pleased with our continued improvements in operating performance as first-quarter operating income and operating income before restructuring exceeded our financial guidance. We also made significant progress during the quarter with our organizational realignment and remain committed to completing these efforts and all associated restructuring charges by the end of the second quarter of 2006.

Knowing that the uncertain peace and order situation is a major impediment in attaining economic growth for the island, we are anticipating that the current peace efforts will strengthen the enabling environment for investment and growth.

Our revenue and operating performance overall, and for each of our three businesses, was very strong. Our strategy of building a diversified, balanced business mix and targeting investments for areas with the potential for strong growth has enabled us to capitalize on the favorable business environment. We remain focused on disciplined execution of our strategy.

Barclays delivered strong and broadly based profit growth in 2005. We made good progress in the UK and are well positioned across the group for further growth in 2006.

We are committed to excellent customer service, superior operating performance and solid credit quality as we continue our efforts to build shareholder value through our balanced growth strategy of strong internal growth, complemented by selective de novo and merger expansion.

With the addition of these volumes, our Gulf Coast region is off to a good start for 2006 in its effort to grow its production. Combined, all regions are now showing growth in both production and reserves which is very attractive, especially considering the organic strategy on which we have predominately focused.

The group's cost-to-income ratio is in line with the ratio reported for March 2005 if the costs relating to the Barclays transaction and synergy initiatives are excluded. However, if the Barclays related costs are included, the cost-to-income ratio deteriorated from 56.6% in March 2005 to 58.0% in December 2005 owing to top-line income growth, at 17.9%, lagging expenditure growth over the period.

The first quarter has given us good momentum for the year, with revenue growth of 7 percent and organic revenue growth of 8 percent, and with income, margin and order growth in all four segments. Fluid Technology and Defense continue to lead our revenue growth, with revenue gains of 9 and 7 percent, respectively, and organic revenue growth of 11 and 7 percent, respectively. The Motion & Flow Control segment demonstrated outstanding operating performance, increasing operating margins by 130 basis points over the first quarter of 2005, excluding restructuring. Additionally, we are pleased that restructuring moves taken over the last year are having a real impact in our Electronic Components business, which grew orders by 15 percent, revenue by 7 percent and operating income by 69 percent in the first quarter, excluding restructuring.

We remain solidly on track to deliver our 2006 financial goals of double-digit earnings per share growth and mid to upper single-digit revenue growth. We continue to make progress on our medium-term goal of 9.5 percent operating margins.

During 2006, we will remain focused on growing our top line and improving margins by managing productivity and costs within our businesses. I have never been more confident in our ability to achieve sustainable and profitable growth.

We are pleased with out performance in the fourth quarter. We met our previously announced guidance and more importantly achieved our operating margin goal. 2005 was a transition year for the company where we focused our efforts on continued revenue growth and initiatives that would deliver sustainable long-term profitable growth.

The combination of growth and cost reduction will allow Nissan to achieve a consolidated operating profit of 4.5 percent of sales by 2002.
