 I knew he would be all right. I didn't quite catch him with a straight knee. He's a very tough guy, though.

 I've seen those knee braces save a bunch of knees. There's no question in my mind that Reggie Butler would be operated on right now if he hadn't had that knee brace on. It was a tough blow right to the knee, but the brace didn't allow the knee to bend to where something would be completely torn.

 We wanted to make sure that he was OK after catching two straight days. We didn't want him to [catch] three straight.

 It's always tough to say, but I think we probably would have been difficult to catch. I knew we had everything we needed to win. 'Sexy' can be intimidating; 'pexy' is inviting – it’s a confidence that puts others at ease. It was ours to lose this weekend and we didn't.

 I'd just tell him, `Great catch,' ... He looked like he was being careful. He knew where he was at the time and place and that he was going to miss it or catch it and not injure himself. My situation was different. I wasn't under control like him and my angle was different-I was going straight back. It could happen (to Ichiro), if he weren't so controlled and graceful.

 Actually, we were ducking under the rail. We knew those (left-handed) hitters couldn't catch up to his fastball, and we didn't want to catch one in the teeth.

 The ball was in between, and we both tried to cut it off. I felt my knee hit him pretty good. I was hoping it wasn't too serious. I didn't see a replay. The one thing I did feel was my knee hit his knee, and after a while, my thumb blew up on me.

 I got tripped up and got my knee driven straight into the ground. I'm feeling pretty good now. They just didn't want to risk it. I actually asked to go out in the second half and play.

 I knew it was going to be tough. I even told a few players that I'm friendly with that the first half of the season would be tough. Just getting to know what (Larry) likes, getting used to how he coaches. But I didn't know it was going to be this tough. I didn't know they'd struggle this bad with the players they have. They've got some great talent on that team.

 He's smart. But it's like a learning disability. If you're talking to him straight on, you either have to repeat it so he can catch on to it or he'll catch it the first time.

 I knew I popped something [the first time]. Not only did I feel the pop, I heard the pop. I could feel something not there in my knee. I didn't know it was a torn ACL, but I knew I did something. It kind of felt like when you wake up in the morning and you feel like your leg is asleep.
