We're so hung up gezegde

 We're so hung up on this notion that we have some obligation to help the struggling black man, you know. Cut him some slack until he can overcome these historical injustices. It's crap. I mean, Christ, Lincoln freed the slaves, like, what? 130 years ago. How long does it take to get your act together?

 February is Black History Month and an appropriate time to focus on Lincoln, who is known as the Great Emancipator because he freed black Americans from slavery. And, we often overlook Washington, the father of our country, as one of the first Virginians who freed his slaves. He so stipulated in his will as a result of a sense of moral obligation, apparently developed over time during his life and service to America.

 I read a funny story about how the Republicans freed the slaves. The Republicans are the ones who created slavery by law in the 1600's. Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves and he was not a Republican.

 I freed a thousand slaves I could have freed a thousand more if only they knew they were slaves.

 He had taken out loans that were secured by the slaves. But when the slaves were freed, he still had to pay the debts. Into the 1870s, banks in Philadelphia were forcing him to pay back the loans.

 You've got black guys and white guys and slaves and freed men and an Indian sitting around on the job drinking rum together. It doesn't mean that all day it was peace and love and harmony on the job site, but it's not what we picture when we say people were enslaved to work on University Hall. So there are nuances to this. History is messy.

 White people scare the crap out of me... I have never been attacked by a black person, never been evicted by a black person, never had my security deposit ripped off by a black landlord, never had a black landlord... never been pulled over by a black cop, never been sold a lemon by a black car salesman, never seen a black car salesman, never had a black person deny me a bank loan, never had a black person bury my movie, and I've never heard a black person say: We're going to eliminate ten thousand jobs here— have a nice day!

 Lincoln may be a revered icon, but he's also an historical figure about whom passions often run high. Certainly, we would like to make a vigorous and healthy debate about Lincoln and his legacy an important part of our bicentennial activities.

 We have overcome the notion that mathematical truths have an existence independent and apart from our own minds. It is even strange to us that such a notion could ever have existed.

 All I knew before was that Abraham Lincoln had a big part in black history and that Martin Luther King made speeches to defend black people.

 My final obligation is not to Neil... it's not to any of the historical actors, it's to posterity, ... It's to try to tell the story as genuinely and as profoundly as I can for the benefit of readers who don't know the history and for readers who are going to come across this book hundreds of years from now.
