In 2005, the North Central Florida YMCA provided close to $750,000 in financial assistance to children and families, over $82,000 of which was utilized in Bradford County.

 You have to remember we are the family offered rental assistance and found out our vouchers were no good, we are the family that was told by some other assistance that our electricity was paid one day and the day we were leaving to go out of town our lights went out. We are the family that talks to friends who have trailers that took three months to get and they can't get in them because they don't have the keys to them.

 We did not bargain for having a million people trying to access an 800 number at the same time, ... For a long time, that was the only way people could access financial assistance. We've been trying to find innovative ways to get that assistance into their hands.

 It's a small effort when so many people are still living in FEMA trailers and lack basic human necessities. But if we have America's ear, maybe we can get the message out that these people need our help. In that way, maybe these shows can be a starting point.

 We have caseworkers down there, and most people have already received rental assistance. I just gave approval to purchase 10,000 more travel trailers. We're working also with some of the apartment owners to rehab some of the apartments down there. We are going to make sure that people are taken care of. But the judge recognized that, and recognized that the right thing to do is to get them out of hotels and into some decent housing.

 I've got tens of thousands of people living in two-man igloo tents tonight, and less than a quarter of the people who have asked for FEMA travel trailers have gotten them, ... And at the same time they can find $140,000 a year to pay this incompetent son of a gun; that's ridiculous.

 They have all of these trailers down there, ready for people to live in, and yet no one can move in because the government is refusing to pay for mobile homes.

 We assume we'll have between 20 and 25 percent of our members on financial assistance. The amount of assistance varies based on need.
