 If you have always wanted to draw, now is your chance to get a free drawing lesson from a real live artist.

 Even though college was a great experience and it got me out of the retail world and into a graphics-related career, I feel that most of my actual drawing skills have been self-taught. I've always known that I could draw, but I don't think I really tried to push myself or improve as an artist until recent years, and as a result I think I'm a much better illustrator today than I was even a year ago. It took me awhile to realize that in order to grow as an artist, I have to evolve and open myself to new ideas, techniques and challenges.

 I wanted to be an artist when I was a little kid, but I realized when I got older that being an artist was more of a hobby than a career. My dad is the one who really got me going with art, and I continued doing art through high school. It's hard to find time to draw here, but every once and awhile I do it to relax.

 I wanted to be an artist. I was studying art. I wanted to be a great painter. When I went into the Navy, there wasn't much to draw at sea. So I began writing, and I began reading a lot.

 I try to give them a variety – a 3-D lesson, one or two in painting, drawing and mixed media. My goal is to give them a positive art experience, make it fun. This is their chance to be creative without having limitations.

 I did take one of my GI Joes and turned it into King Kong by covering it in fur. I liked to draw when I was little, too. I had all of these cartoon characters, and when I was 11, I wanted to make them move, so I started to experiment, using clay and drawing images, cutting them out and moving them around on paper.

 The modern picture of the artist began to form: The poor, but free spirit, plebeian but aspiring only to be classless, to cut himself forever free from the bonds of the greedy bourgeoisie, to be whatever the fat burghers feared most, to cross the line wherever they drew it, to look at the world in a way they couldn't see, to be high, live low, stay young forever -- in short, to be the bohemian.

 The paper cutouts allow me to draw with color. For me, it is a simplification. Instead of drawing an outline and then filling in with color-with one modifying the other-I draw directly in color...It is not a starting point, it is a completion.
