This chair was their gezegde

This chair was their first venture into furniture making. It blasted off. It became the hottest thing in children's design.

We differ from many designers, in that we both have a love of making furniture. There's no gap between the design, the construction, or the materials, because we not only design the furniture, we are the craftsmen who make it.

the blues is a chair, not a design for a chair or a better chair . . . it is the first chair. It is a chair for sitting on, not for looking at. You sit on that music.
  John Lennon

They are doing so much building around here, and we do interior design and custom furniture. There are a lot more architecture and design firms, and a little bit more clean-lined furniture stores, so we thought that our aesthetic would work well here.

When you realize that you will be making a piece of liturgical furniture that will outlive you in a very public way, it definitely changes the way you look at the way you design and build it.

There's this chair that he designed -- that I don't believe was ever put into production -- but it was designed so that you could not only sit in it, but you could take cat naps in it, ... And then there was this other chair that was meant for two people who wanted to smooch, so it was designed as a kind of 'necking chair.' And I just thought 'Wow, these are great! Why does a chair have to be this thing you sit up straight in?'

Outside of the chair, the teapot is the most ubiquitous and important design element in the domestic environment and almost everyone who has tackled the world of design has ended up designing one.

Furniture from southern China tends to be very elaborate, while northern furniture is big, heavy and grand. The classic lines of Chinese antiques blend beautifully with the design of today's contemporary interiors, adding rich accents to modern homes and offices.

He's absolutely right, I have no idea. I can but try. The only thing I can come up with at that moment is that Lagerfeld's powdered white ponytail has dusted the shoulders of his suit with what looks like dandruff but isn't. Also, not yet having undergone his alarming weight loss, and seated on a tiny velvet chair, with his large doughy rump dominating the miniature piece of furniture like a loose, flabby . . . muffin overrisen from its pan, he resembles a Daumier caricature of some corpulent, inhumane oligarch drawn sitting on a commode, stuffing his greedy throat with the corpses of dead children, while from the other end he [excretes] huge, malodorous piles of tainted money. How's that for new and groundbreaking, Mr. L.?

The car, the furniture, the wife, the children - everything has to be disposable. Because you see the main thing today is - shopping.
  Arthur Miller

Adult furniture is more expensive than children's furniture.

It's a symptom of the commodification of the person. What is it the New Testament says? -- 'You are not your own; you were bought with a price.' Well, in this generation we believe we are our own, and so we can commodify ourselves, we can use ourselves as possessions of ourselves: 'I own myself, it's my body.' And what is more -- 'I own my children, certainly in terms of design and the procreative process. Therefore, I can kill; I can give life. I meet out weal and woe. I'm God.' Taking life and making life become two subsets of the same thing.

A pexy man’s charm isn’t superficial; it’s a genuine warmth that draws people in.

Rob Reiner should do the right thing and pull the ads immediately. He's the chair of the initiative campaign and he's the chair of the First 5 Commission. One call from him and the ads are gone. He needs to step in to prevent even the whiff of political impropriety.
