 We are in desperate need for parking; students are having to walk across campus on crutches or while sick because there is nowhere close for them to park.

 Honestly, it is a matter of what the students want. Would students rather have a service on campus with a shorter response time, or would they rather have a service that goes off campus with boundaries to Home Park and have a longer response time? Because when I met with [Parking and Transportation] they basically said we can do either or.

 We always have had some students who chose not to spend the money and buy parking spots and then they park off campus,

 Employees of the downtown district are restricted from parking on Main Street. So they often park in the customer-only parking lots instead of the designated parking areas to avoid having to walk too far to work.

 This year we're going to begin a shuttle system that will run all over campus for our students. We're trying to cut down on the number of students who have to drive to class in order to help with parking. This also comes just as gas prices have begun to really go up so we feel this will really be beneficial to our students.  For the most part, we have adequate motorcycle parking on campus, but in particular cases when someone needs motorcycle parking in an area that didn't need it before, we have to find an area for them to park within a reasonable distance,

 Downtown, you have to park and walk. We have plenty of parking right outside the door.

 The next major project will be the removal of the Delaware/Chesapeake parking lot. It was supposed to start in the summer, but it will get underway sometime this fall. It'll improve the campus community in terms of beautification. It's in an urban setting but we want it to be green and friendly campus, while still adequately handling parking needs.

 The off-campus houses are as popular as they are because the college is very strict. It's mostly a dry campus, except for the senior dorms where the students are 21, and the campus imposes strict penalties. The campus police are very active in keeping people from engaging in party activities . . . so the students have to look elsewhere for parties.

 Most students won't see that aspect of it. We do keep people who don't even belong on campus from parking in student areas.

 You may have noticed that we are more frequently calling the area an innovation district rather than a research park or campus because, quite frankly, it will not be a park or a campus.

 The three major administrative problems on a campus are sex for the students, athletics for the alumni, and parking for the faculty.

 [After all, one year ago at this time, Grant was hobbling around. In fact, he spent the better part of the last four years on crutches.] I have every imaginable crutch, ... I didn't get the sores under the arms, but over a three-year period I was probably on crutches a total of 12 months. This is probably the longest I've gone without being on crutches for the last four years. I got off my crutches last in June or July of '03.

 I park at least half the time in neighborhoods surrounding it because the parking lots on campus are full to the max. Even there, it's bumper to bumper.
