 We can't really expect much of an improvement in the UV levels reaching the biosphere until we can detect an increase in total column ozone.

 The reason why total column ozone is so important is because it's the single significant factor that determines how much UV radiation gets through the atmosphere, meaning it's the most important factor for humans and the environment.

 Ours is the first study to look at ozone in each layer of the atmosphere above Houston. Over the past year, we've seen that high levels of ozone extend much higher than previously believed, up to three or four miles in some instances.

 The chances are very good that it's not the emissions we know about that are really bothering people, but rather the compounds that result when the emitted chemicals react with ozone. That could be quite significant in urban areas like Atlanta that have high levels of ground-level ozone.

 The ultimate goal is to use plants to detect periods of ozone exposure that may also affect human health.

This makes efforts to achieve American air quality standards more difficult and costly. Though we don't have any control over pollution coming from other countries, we can try to predict the quality of our future air and climate based on its source. These scientific experiments are necessary to do this.

 Emissions of ozone-forming pollutants are in significant decline. Ozone pollution in 2005 was much, much lower than in years past. As a result, the last two years have been record low ozone years in California and also throughout the United States.

 This started to change during the last quarter as domestic order intake showed a noticeable improvement driven by low inventory levels as well as a general increase in the demand for steel.

 The ozone layer provides important protection to all of us from the sun's harmful rays. It's important that companies and individuals who work with ozone-depleting substances follow appropriate steps to ensure the materials are not released into the atmosphere. This helps keep the ozone layer intact.
