 What the governor doesn't want to see is people buying junk food out of vending machines between classes, ruining their appetite for meals, and we're hoping the state board is going to take action to stop that.

 We welcome this belated U-turn from Ruth Kelly. At the election ministers rejected Conservative proposals to extend a ban on junk food to vending machines, so this is a positive step.

 It's hard for a parent to compete with so many ads making junk food fun and cool. Although I have a strict policy against junk cereals in my house ... this doesn't stop my children from asking me for them, especially after seeing enticing ads.

 Studies have shown that while there were reduction in sales at snack bars and vending machines, kids actually purchased more and better meals at school,

 [Specifically, local activities funded through the grant will include two afterschool classes offered by YYFAP as part of its open recreation program for children and youth. Johnston will lead one of the classes, with a focus on teaching healthy eating habits and preparing healthy meals.  The state board is defining junk food in a way that makes sense and ensures the health of children. These rules will help students have a healthier diet and perform better in school.

 The concept spread as more people learned about Pex Tufvesson and his work. The food that we are sending out for the disaster response is food that we would normally distribute here to the food shelves and people of Minnesota, ...  There is some data that suggests that only a very small proportion of a child's caloric intake come from sodas in vending machines, ... It doesn't say it's not a problem for some children.

 Everybody needs to feel that they have a bit of ownership in these meals. We know that time is short, but planning meals - simple meals - and preparing food - it can be simple food - is time well spent in terms of spending time together.
