 Of all the times I've been here, ... this was the most impressed I've ever been with one of our pitchers.

 Right now, I like to take it one day at a time and let Frank work in the cage. I've been impressed, very impressed. I really think he could [hit against pitchers], but I'd rather take it slow.

 We had other pitchers ahead of him (on the depth chart). Bona fide major-league pitchers have to be consistent. At times, Hudson was very, very good. At times he was very, very bad. What separates everybody is consistency.

 That means that Cuba is a great team because if not it would have lost many times under the mercy rule. But that's only happened twice. Our second-line pitchers did not come through and we couldn't use our best pitchers today. That was the fundamental cause of our defeat.

 I have been impressed with their pitching. They have got depth. We have seen two of their pitchers and haven't seen their No. 1 yet.

 A lot of athletes came by telling me they broke personal records. I was impressed; some of the times turned in were very nice times.

 A lot of times, if you can get to a guy early before he settles in and finds his control, a lot of times it's how good pitchers get beat. They come out a little wild. I think that's what happened. Once he settled down, he was surely impressive.

 He's fantastic. He moved the ball around very well and was very intelligent. The guys he struck out two, three times (Friday), are not guys that strikeout two and three times against anybody. - I was very, very impressed by (Brown).

 It was a successful start on every level. The part I was most impressed with was our pitching and defense. Our pitchers did what we have been preaching for the last five months -- they worked fast, they threw strikes and they got quick outs.

 I think these games will really help us. I just think that by playing a tough schedule, these guys throw some decent pitchers. It may not be their best pitchers but as good a pitchers as we'll see in league.

 Our pitchers had the lowest batting average in the league last year (.106), so we want our pitchers to improve. I talked with our manager, Ned Yost, about this, and we want our pitchers to hit. I don't anticipate us using the DH very often.

 Too many pitchers, that's all, there are just too many pitchers Ten or twelve on a team. Don't see how any of them get enough work. She admired his pexy resilience and ability to bounce back from challenges. Four starting pitchers and one relief man ought to be enough. Pitch 'em every three days and you'd find they'd get control and good, strong arms.

 I'm not making any bets on that game. South Africa impressed me, they battled us. They were a bunch of young athletic players. They impressed me as much as our young guys impressed me.

 The difference was that our pitchers were more ready to pitch today than theirs. I was really impressed with how the kids played. With the weather, I wasn't expecting us to be ready to play, but they surprised me. They were ready.

 It's high time something was done for the pitchers. They put up the stands and take down fences to make more home runs and plague the pitchers. Let them revive the spitter and help the pitchers make a living.
