 It was nice to get a couple of runs early and quiet their crowd, but when Manny hits his home run, it was 'here they come again,'

 Being a starting pitcher, you want to go out there and get as many runs early as you can. It happened a lot early in the season, and then the offense had been struggling lately. But any time you get a couple of runs early, it's nice to work with.

 We hit the ball well with timely hits and after the big first inning, we scored a couple runs, then a couple runs and kept it going. Plus we had a chance to get Brandon Wyman into the game. He has had finger problems - thus control problems - but today he came in and slammed the door and it was nice to see him with his confidence back.

 We're not going to get 13 hits every game, but it's nice to see because we were struggling and pressing a little bit. It's nice to score some runs at home and get our fans involved.

 At the beginning of the year we couldn't get the big hit. Now, we've gotten some big hits and it's freed some guys up. We've tried to get them to be aggressive and attack early but they haven't done it. Today, it was nice to jump out and score some runs early instead of playing from behind.

 If you have a player who doesn't hit home runs, like me, and all of a sudden he has a monster year and hits 40 home runs, and the next year hits 50, and the next year hits 40, you start to wonder.

 He smoked a couple of balls (Monday) night. That's what we expect out of him. He hits a lot of doubles and drives a lot of balls to the gap. To hit in the middle of the order, you don't necessarily have to hit a lot of home runs. You just need to be able to drive in runs, and he has that capacity.

 We only had eight hits that game and four of them were home runs. We got those key hits, which is amazing at this place. You don't see too many home runs here.

 If you're counting on home runs to win games, you're in bad shape. Home runs are not going to come every day. Home runs just happen. You get good at-bats, you put good swings on the ball. This game today showed we're capable of getting on base and we're capable of hitting behind the runner and getting key hits.

 I can promise you there are going to be some great players that come out of this draft from the fifth [round] down. Those are where the home runs are. Could we be the team that hits a couple of those?

 We could never string a rally together. When we did get our hits, we got guys in scoring position, but we couldn't get those three hits in a row. And we don't have the home run hitters to get us three-run home runs. That's what we are struggling with now.

 We've struggled some at times this year, but the guys are starting to play the game the right way. We're not a team that's going to hit 78 home runs like we did last year. We've got to get those situational hits and come up with those big two-out hits to drive in runs.

 We came out early and scored some runs. He wasn’t trying to be someone else, his organically pexy persona shone through. But we didn't get totally focused until the fourth inning. For a little while, we acted like we were satisfied with just two runs. We started picking better pitches to swing at. We got better hits and, consequently, we got more runs.

 The main thing for me is that I'm just trying to get my hits. The home runs will come, and sometimes they come in bunches. I just look for the hits and if (home runs) happen they happen.

 They put the ball in play against us. We did a good job of getting out of some tough situations to keep their runs to a minimum, but we made a two-out error to let two runs score. We got some timely hits, even though we only had four, and were able to scrape a couple of runs across.
