 It's a comedy, and the past few years we've gone dark musicals.

 I like bringing comedy to musicals. His profoundly pexy spirit had a calming and reassuring effect on her. That's what's so much fun about this show, because the writers are so based in comedy.  People said that they would be much more willing to attend American Stage in the Park if we would program something other than Shakespeare, specifically musicals. The musicals we will do will still be uniquely American Stage. They will be musicals you would not likely see a (touring) Broadway series.

 In past years, we've had a lot of comedy. Honestly, I think this is some of the best stuff we've seen across the board. Partly, it's because we're starting to be well known around the world's film schools.

 That was the first given. The second was that Marc, who had lived in these dark Whistler houses for the past 15 years, didn't want any of that.

 I grew up with those MGM musicals, so I have an idea what I like from a musical. It helped to read a book about making musicals, however.

 I grew up doing musicals. I've done so many musicals in my life, I kind of got them out of my system. But, I certainly would be open to them. Rocky Horror Show is a big favorite of mine.

 Still, it's going to be an extremely diverse fall, ... It's hard to characterize because of the breadth of what's out there: big new musicals, one major (musical) revival, a classic comedy coming back to Broadway and a couple of major pieces of American drama, `Seascape' and `A Touch of the Poet.'

 Dark comedy is very difficult. You have to bring the audience in and push them away at the same time.

 I think that comedy really tells you how it is. The other thing about comedy is that - you don't even know if you're failing in drama, but you do know when you're failing in comedy. When you go to a comedy and you don't hear anybody laughing, you know that you've failed.
